Steve Sarkisian praises the freshmen class and how talented they are
This past recruiting cycle for Texas is one that can help shape the program for years to come.
Headlined by five-stars Arch Manning, Anthony Hill, and CJ Baxter the group ranked as the No. 3 class in the country. On top of looking good on paper, Steve Sarkisian revealed on Thursday when speaking with the media that a handful of youngsters will play often this season.
As documented by 247Sports, Sarkisian named a few freshmen who will make an immediate impact, citing Johntay Cook II, Liona Lefau, DeAndre Moore Jr. and Tre Wisner that he expects to play right away.
When speaking about the class as a whole, he called them “gifted.”
“All of these freshmen are at different stages, but it’s a good class,” said Sarkisian, who brought up the four-game rule that allows a player to play in up to four games and retain a season of eligibility as a tool Texas will use to get the feet of some of the freshmen wet. “It’s a competitive class, it’s a physically gifted class and I think these are guys that are gonna play a lot of football for us, not only this year but for years to come.”
For the first time in what feels like a decade, the Longhorns will be fielding an experienced and proven team. They are set to open the season on Saturday against Rice as they look to make a run to the Big 12 title game and beyond.
