Steph Curry doesn’t rule out playing into his 40s

Since being drafted by the Golden State Warriors, Steph Curry has cemented himself as one of the best point guards in NBA history. Unquestionably the best shooter the league has ever seen, Curry’s unlimited range and exceptional off-ball movement have seen him elevate Golden State for the last 14 years.

During a recent appearance on the ‘Gils Arena’ podcast, Curry was asked whether he could continue playing into his 40s. The All-Star guard responded by explaining how playing to such a late age was never the plan but stopped short of ruling anything out. Curry noted how he has three years remaining on his current deal and would then ‘figure it out.’

“I never imagined myself being the 40-plus dude, trying to hold on for dear life. But who knows what my body will look like and feel like at that point?” Curry said. “I got three years left on my deal including this year, so at least that and then kinda figure it out from there.”

Curry’s game isn’t based on his physical attributes. There’s no explosiveness around the rim or clashing of bodies on the low block. Instead, Curry utilizes endless movement and dribble actions to find or create space. As such, there’s no reason why Curry would be unable to play into his 40s other than he decides he’s accomplished everything he wanted and chooses to enjoy retirement.

Fortunately for Warriors fans, any potential retirement decision from Curry is still a couple of years away, meaning they will have plenty more time to enjoy his historic style of play and big-game performances.
