Steelers WR Antonio Brown is active vs. Bengals on Monday night
Pittsburgh Steelers star receiver Antonio Brown will be active for “Monday Night Football.” We’ll see how much he plays or how effective he is.
The Steelers, who are 9-2 and play the Cincinnati Bengals on Monday night, did not list Brown as one of their inactives 90 minutes before kickoff. Brown apparently injured his toe at some point in the middle of last week, but is active.
Brown practiced on Thursday, per the Steelers’ injury report, then didn’t practice Friday or Saturday. When he didn’t practice Saturday, many reports out of Pittsburgh said he was in danger of missing Monday night’s game.
About two hours before kickoff, reporters at Paul Brown Stadium said Brown was on the field in full uniform testing out his injured toe. His status was a hot topic on social media, in large part because he’s one of the top players in fantasy football and Week 13 is generally the final regular-season week in fantasy leagues.
Brown leads the NFL with 1,195 yards and has been red hot lately, posting games of 144 and 169 yards the past two weeks. Brown has been one of the best receivers in the NFL for many years, and is a key part of the Steelers’ offense. He also has been durable. Brown hasn’t missed a regular-season game due to injury since 2012.
Brown could be limited, even though he is suited up. As Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette noted, the Steelers had all of their other receivers active, which is unusual and a sign that they wanted safeguards in case Brown couldn’t play all of his normal snaps. But in a big game for the Steelers, who need to win to keep pace with the Patriots for best record in the AFC, any contributions from Brown are better than nothing.
