Steelers announce 3 more general manager interviews

There’s thorough and then there’s Pittsburgh Steelers thorough. On Saturday, the Pittsburgh Steelers announced three more candidates had interviewed for the team’s upcoming general manager vacancy.

This brings the team’s total number of interviews to 13 including two in-house candidates. Current general manager Kevin Colbert plans to step down after the 2022 NFL draft and he has actually been part of the interview process for his replacement.

The three latest candidates are Baltimore Ravens director of college scouting Joe Hortiz, San Francisco 49ers director of pro personnel Ran Carthon and Philadelphia Eagles vice preside of player personnel Andy Weidl.

Colbert is stepping down after being in charge of the Steelers in some capacity since 2000. Whoever replaces Colbert will essentially inherit the team Colbert drafts which could complicate the hiring process. The Steelers made the playoffs last season with a 9-7-1 record and are looking at a new era in 2022 without Ben Roethlisberger at quarterbacks.
