Stats and Highlights: Kelly Oubre Jr. explodes for career-high 40 points vs. Mavs

After a rough start to his first season with the Golden State Warriors, Kelly Oubre Jr. registered a much-needed breakout performance on Thursday night in Texas.

To start a four-game road trip in the lone star state, Oubre Jr. notched a new career-high with 40 points on 8-of-14 shooting from the field en route to Golden State’s blowout 147-116 victory over the Dallas Mavericks.

Throughout the season, Oubre Jr. has only surpassed 20 points on two occasions. However, on Thursday, the 25-year-old wing surged past 20 points in the first half against Dallas.

With the Warriors trailing by two points coming out of the locker room at halftime, Oubre Jr. helped Golden State charge by Dallas with an impressive third-quarter effort. The Kansas product tacked on 15 points on 6-of-8 shooting from the field as the Warriors took a commanding 14 point lead before the fourth quarter.

Following a dreadful long-distance shooting slump to start the season, Oubre Jr. resembled a Splash Brother in Dallas, burying seven 3-pointers on 10 attempts from deep.

Along with his new career-best in scoring, Oubre Jr. added eight boards, two assists, a steal and one emphatic block in 36 minutes. Oubre Jr. rose to meet the 7-foot-4 Boban Marjanović at the rim for a powerful block against the Dallas center.

Coming off a red-hot performance, Oubre Jr. won’t have to wait long to lace up against the team he dropped 40 points on. The Warriors are slated to run it back against the Mavs on Saturday night for the second contest of a two-game “baseball series.”
