Out-of-state schools, Bettendorf dominate the boys Dan Gable Donnybrook Tournament

CORALVILLE − The boys side of the Dan Gable Donnybrook Tournament was exceptionally competitive this weekend, not only with the best in the state of Iowa coming out but also several high-profile out-of-state wrestlers competing.

Bettendorf (third place) and Fort Dodge (sixth place) were the highlights from Iowa. The Bulldogs had two finalists and one champion in Lincoln Jipp (165 pounds) as well as several medalists. The Dodgers had three champions at Donnybrook in Dru Ayala (120 pounds), Koy Davidson (138) and Dreshaun Ross (215).

Perhaps no bouts highlighted the invasion from schools outside of Iowa more than the 175- and 190-pound title matches. Peyton Westpfahl (Liberty High School, Missouri Tigers commit) and Colin Kelly (Wisconsin commit from Mt. Carmel, Illinois) sparred at 175, where Kelly came out on top. In the following match at 190 pounds, Penn State commit Connor Mirasola of West Bend (Wis.) flashed exactly why he's one of crown jewels of the 2024 class, winning 25-10 for a technical fall in the championship round.

In total, eight boys from outside of Iowa won individual titles and the top two teams were from Mt. Carmel (Illinois) and Liberty High School (Missouri).
