State cross country meet: Rahmer and Vause the favorites

Nov. 10—Can Gianna Rahmer and Charlie Vause close out brilliant cross country seasons with victories Saturday?

That's one of the prominent story lines as the season ends with the state meet at Albuquerque Academy.

Rahmer, an eighth-grader at Hoover Middle School who has been competing for Eldorado, and Vause, a Rio Rancho High junior who transferred from Ohio, have dominated the Class 5A competition this season.

Both won the pre-state Extravaganza on this same course at the Academy three weeks ago, the primer for this meet. Rahmer won her race by over two minutes, a staggering margin.

The Class 5A boys (Rio Rancho is an overwhelming team favorite) begins at 10:50 a.m. The girls start at 11:35 a.m.

Class 3A — Kate Henderson of Sandia Prep is perhaps the girls individual favorite — gets the meet going, with races at 9 a.m. (boys) and 9:45 a.m. (girls).

The Class 1A-2A races follow 5A, at 12:40 and 1:25. Class 4A's races come last, at 2:30 (boys) and 3:15 p.m. (girls).

Tickets are $12 for adults and $7 for students/seniors/military. All tickets must be purchased online before the event.
