State champ Jackson, 9 individuals to enter Greater Stark County Amateur Baseball Hall of Fame

The 2014 state champion Jackson Polar Bears will join nine individuals in the Greater Stark County Amateur Baseball Hall of Fame's Class of 2024.

They will be honored during the 88th annual banquet on Saturday, Jan. 20, at St. George Serbian Center, 4667 Applegrove St. NW in North Canton.

Doors open at 6 p.m., with dinner at 7 and the induction following. Tickets are $45 and can be purchased via GSCABA, 2044 Carlile Dr., Uniontown, Ohio 44685, or by calling 330-705-4456. Checks can be made out to GSCABA.

Coach Bill Gamble's Jackson team beat North Royalton 5-1 in 84-degree heat in Columbus in the 2014 OHSAA Division I state finals, after the Polar Bears defeated Cincinnati Moeller 4-2 in the state semifinals.

The Jackson team will enter the hall of fame along with:

Paul Hesse (Mount Union), Emery Hunt (Sandy Valley), Zack Leonard (McKinley), Scott McIlvain (Marlington), Eric Marzec (Central Catholic), Tim Newman (GlenOak), Joel Nichols (Marlington), H. John Sherrod (Jackson), and Mike Skeeles (McKinley).

Tickets will not be available at the door.

Jon Butchko (Central Catholic) also will be honored with the Ralph Miller Service Award.
