Starting 5: Louisville RB Jawhar Jordan accepts invite to play in all-star game, more

Louisville star running back Jawhar Jordan, who reached 1,000 rushing yards on the season in the Cardinals' 38-31 win at Miami on Saturday, has accepted an invite to play in the East-West Shrine Bowl on Feb. 1, 2024.

The postseason college football all-star game featuring seniors and scouts will be played at Ford Center, where the Dallas Cowboys practice, in Frisco, Texas. The game will be broadcast on NFL Network.

Around the city: Pleasure Ridge Park football parts ways with longtime coach Tommy Williams

Pleasure Ridge Park football coach Tommy Williams said the school decided it wouldn't renew his contract. In his statement released on X, Williams said the reason was "nothing dramatic" and there is "no scandal" behind PRP letting him go. Williams coached the Panthers for seven years, leading PRP to a 30-43 record during his nearly decade-long tenure.

High school recruiting: Local seniors continue to sign letters of intent

Oldham County senior Max Green signed his national letter of intent Nov. 14 to play basketball for Holy Cross. Last season, Green led his team in scoring with 23.8 points per game. He shot 48% from the field and averaged 4.8 rebounds per game.

North Oldham senior Avery Kuzmicky signed her NLI to play field hockey for Miami (Ohio). In 2023, Kuzmicky led the Mustangs with 10 goals and two assists.

Fellow North Oldham senior Brooke Bennett signed her NLI to play softball for Longwood. Last season, Bennett led the Mustangs in batting average (.480) and home runs (five). She was second in RBIs (43). Bennett led the team with 48 hits.

Performance of the week: Louisville volleyball's Cara Cresse earns ACC honors

Redshirt sophomore Cara Cresse recently earned ACC Defensive Player of the Week honors, leading Louisville volleyball to victories against Duke and North Carolina.

Cresse totaled 11 blocks (three against Duke and eight against North Carolina). She leads the ACC and is No. 2 nationally with an overall hitting percentage of 45.3.

  • Bellarmine men's basketball is hosting Morehead State at 6:30 p.m. Monday and Midway University at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. The Knights are scheduled to play at West Virginia at 5 p.m. Nov. 26.

  • Bellarmine women's basketball is scheduled to play at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Murray State.

  • Louisville volleyball will play its final regular-season game against Georgia Tech at 5 p.m. Wednesday at L&N Arena.

Play of the week: Covington Catholic grad Michael Mayer records first NFL touchdown

Raiders tight end Michael Mayer, a Covington Catholic graduate, scored his first NFL touchdown in a 16-12 win against the Jets. In 10 games, Mayer has caught 16 passes for 178 yards.

Mayer was the Kentucky Gatorade Player of the Year after he caught 49 passes for 970 yards and 15 touchdowns his senior year. Mayer's stellar play earned him a spot in the 2020 All-American Bowl. He was selected 35th overall (second round) by the Raiders in the 2023 NFL Draft. Mayer had 180 catches for 2,099 yards and 18 touchdowns during three seasons with the Fighting Irish.
