Starting 5: Kentucky track stars warm up for Olympics, Eastern hires hoops coach, more

In preparation for the U.S. Olympic Trials and 2024 Paris Olympics, former Kentucky standout Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone ran a personal-best 20.07 seconds in the 200 meters at the Los Angeles Grand Prix.

Abby Steiner, another former Wildcats track and field star, finished second in 22.32. McLaughlin-Levrone competed in the 200 to help prepare for her signature event, the 400 hurdles.

Thrower Jayden Ulrich is among Louisville athletes who are eyeing spots on the U.S. Olympic Team.

The U.S. Olympic Trials are scheduled June 21-30 at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon.

Around the city: Eastern basketball hires Leon Ellison as head coach

Eastern High School recently hired Leon Ellison as its boys basketball coach. Ellison previously coached at Aiken and Princeton high schools in Cincinnati. Ellison led Aiken to a Final Four appearance in Ohio, two regional appearances and eight sectional championship games.

Great Crossing junior Malachi Moreno and former Woodford County star Jasper Johnson are in Colorado for the under-18 Team USA training camp. Team USA is hosting 28 athletes and will choose 12 players for the 2024 AmeriCup, which is scheduled June 3-9 in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

High school recruiting: PRP junior Tucker Roth picks up Army football offer

Tucker Roth, a 6-foot-4 junior linebacker for Pleasure Ridge Park, recently received an offer from Army football. Roth recorded a team-best 120 tackles, including six for loss, 2.5 sacks and two forced fumbles.

  • The Louisville Bats are scheduled to host the Iowa Cubs at 6:35 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday. The series continues at 7:15 p.m. Friday and Saturday. It is scheduled to conclude with a 1:05 p.m. start June 2.

  • Racing Louisville FC will host the Houston Dash at 8 p.m. June 7.

  • Louisville City FC is set to host Detroit City FC at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday before traveling to play Miami FC at 7 p.m. Saturday.
