Stark Public Special Olympics Royal Knights win SOOH Division 3 state basketball title

The Stark Public Special Olympics Royal Knights won the Special Olympics Ohio Division 3 state basketball championship this past weekend on the campus of Bowling Green State University.

The Royal Knights defeated the Marion County Hawks 52-27 Sunday at the Stroh Center. Cory Amatangelo of the Royal Knights scored a game-high 18 points, while teammate Max Broom added 17.

Jarret Walter led the Marion Hawks in scoring with 13 points.

In the state semifinals played earlier Saturday at the Perry Fieldhouse, the Royal Knights defeated the Hilliard Bobcats 64-59. Amatangelo scored 24 points to lead the Royal Knights, Max Broom added 15 points, and Jimmy Mohler scored eight points and grabbed 26 rebounds. Sam Files led the Bobcats with 37 points while teammate William Delarosa added 10.

The Royal Knights completed their season with an 11-5 overall record. Here are their state tournament box scores:
