Stark County high school football Week 10 recaps: Central Catholic, GlenOak among winners

The Central Catholic High School football team rolled to a win over its rival Friday night. GlenOak continued its late-season surge with another road win. Fairless and West Branch won big in rivalry games, too. All four are headed to the playoffs. Find out about those Week 10 games and more.

Canton Central Catholic football rolls into OHSAA playoffs with dominant win

CENTRAL CATHOLIC 42, ST. THOMAS AQUINAS 6

LOUISVILLE — The Crusaders did not allow a first down in routing their winless archrivals heading into the Division VI playoffs.

Central outgained Aquinas 279 to minus-4 yards to finish the regular season 6-4. According to joeeitel.com, the Crusaders have locked up a top eight finish in Region 21 and will host a first-round playoff game.

Daniel Boron scored three touchdowns to help power the Central offense. He ran for 63 yards on just six carries and added a 19-yard reception. Grady Noggle ran for a game-high 116 yards and a score on 15 carries.

Central QB Brennan Betz threw for 62 yards and a TD on 3-of-4 passing. James Kane caught two passes for 43 yards and a TD. He also intercepted a pass.

Aquinas finishes the season 0-10 and has lost 26 straight games, dating back to the third round of the 2020 playoffs.

The Knights’ only score Friday came on Nick Allen’s 82-yard kickoff return for a TD in the third quarter.

GlenOak football stays hot, beats Perry for fourth straight win

GLENOAK 21, PERRY 16

PERRY TWP. — GlenOak ran for 279 yards as a team at Keith Wakefield Stadium as it held on for its fourth straight win.

Junior Jamar Johnson ran for 117 yards and a touchdown on 26 carries for the Golden Eagles (6-4, 4-2), who led 21-3 entering the fourth quarter. Senior Avantae Burt ran for 64 yards and two touchdowns on seven carries, while his younger brother, QB Adrion “Milk” Burt, added 98 yards on 10 carries.

GlenOak finished tied for second in the Federal League after starting the season 1-3. This is the Golden Eagles’ first four-game winning streak since 2015 and their first winning season since 2016.

Perry’s Christian Ivanic totaled 111 yards on 19 carries. Quarterback Austin Mattox ran for a touchdown while completing 12 of 18 passes for 189 yards, one TD and no interceptions. Jayden Wilson caught the TD pass for the Panthers (4-6, 1-5), finishing with four receptions for 91 yards.

Louisville football suffers eighth consecutive loss in season finale

STEUBENVILLE 41, LOUISVILLE 8

LOUISVILLE — Aydan Manning tossed three touchdown passes for Steubenville as the Big Red won its ninth consecutive game. Manning was nearly perfect throwing the ball, going 8-of-10 passing 130 yards with no interceptions.

Louisville’s lone touchdown came on a 2-yard run by quarterback Owen Burick in the fourth quarter. Burick ran 12 times for 47 yards and was the leading rusher for the Leopards. Braiden Hershey caught four passes for 66 yards to lead Louisville in receiving.

The Leopards finish the season 1-9, losing their final eight games. They only played two teams with losing records this season.

Manchester football closes out James R. France Stadium with loss

CVCA 41, MANCHESTER 14

FRANKLIN TWP. — The Royals (8-2, 6-1) clinched a runner-up finish in the PAC-7 and playoff spot in beating the Panthers (1-9).

Logan Scranton scored twice for CVCA and Joey Kopec added a third rushing touchdown. Ty Bova threw a TD pass to Charlie Levac.

Caleb Youngman scored on the ground and Yadin Sharp threw a 24-yard touchdown pass to Elliot Berisford to account for Manchester’s points in the final game at James R. France Stadium.

Peter Killy powers Fairless football to fifth straight Blue Cup win vs. Tuslaw

BREWSTER — Peter Killy rushed of a game-high 233 yards and two touchdowns to power the Falcons to their fifth straight Blue Cup win over rival Tuslaw.

Killy’s 74-yard TD run in the second quarter broke a 7-7 tie and opened a game-ending 34-0 run for Fairless (4-6, 3-4). He also had a 34-yard TD run.

Falcons quarterback Carson Colucci threw two TD passes to Gio Moore. Troy McVicker and Blake Hukill also ran for touchdowns.

Joey Medure rushed for 121 yards and a TD for Tuslaw (2-8, 0-7).

Per JoeEitel.com, Fairless’ season-ending two-game win streak will be enough to land the Falcons one of the final playoff spots in Division V, Region 17. It would be the fourth straight postseason berth for head coach AJ Sarbaugh’s team.

West Branch football wraps up unbeaten Eastern Buckeye Conference season

WEST BRANCH 49, SALEM 0

SALEM — Boston Mulinix ran for three touchdowns as West Branch defeated rival Salem to finish EBC play unbeaten. West Branch has won nine consecutive games after losing its season opener.

Mulinix needed only eight carries to run for 112 yards.

Joey Jackson also scored two touchdowns for West Branch. Jackson scored on a 24-yard interception return and also caught a 94-yard TD pass. The 94-yard touchdown catch ties a school record Jeremiah Thompson and Alazaus set earlier this season. Jackson caught three passes for 119 yards.

Thompson returned a punt 41 yards for a TD for West Branch. He has two punt returns for touchdowns this season.

The West Branch defense recorded its fourth shutout of the season.

The Warriors (9-1, 5-0) also scored at least 49 points in all five EBC games and their last six games overall.

Salem (1-9, 1-4) gained just 91 yards of total offense.

Malvern football clinches outright IVC North championship

MALVERN 49, EAST CANTON 0

EAST CANTON — Jared Witherow threw three TD passes to help Malvern wrap up a 9-1 regular season and the outright Inter-Valley Conference North Division title.

Witherow finished 16-of-22 for 197 yards. He threw two touchdown passes to Dylan Phillips and another to Rodney Smith.

Malvern scored two defensive TDs. Ryan Runyon returned an interception 86 yards for a TD, while Julius Gore scored on a 33-yard fumble return.

Malvern held East Canton to just 113 total yards.

In other Week 10 Greater Canton high school football games

SANDY VALLEY 26, TUSKY VALLEY 20 (OT)

ZOARVILLE — The Cardinals will carry some momentum in the playoffs after beating the Trojans in overtime.  Sandy Valley (6-4, 2-3) scored late in regulation to tie the game, but a missed extra point led to overtime. The Cardinals were able to win it in the extra period.

No other details were available.

Sandy Valley will finish ninth in Division V, Region 17, according joeeitel.com. Tusky Valley (4-6, 0-5) is also heading to the playoffs in Division VI, Region 23.

CARROLLTON 34, MINERVA 0

MINERVA — The Warriors (6-4) won for the fifth time in the last six games, shutting out host Minerva. The Lions finish 0-10 and have lost 29 straight games. No details were available.
