The Star ranks its top 10 baseball and softball teams entering the CIF-SS playoffs

The Star's Baseball Top 10

1. Westlake (24-4, 12-3 Marmonte League)

Comment: The defending CIF-State Division III regional champions are the No. 1 seed in the CIF-SS Division 2 playoffs for good reason.

2. Camarillo (19-5, 12-0 Coastal Canyon League)

Comment: Back in the playoffs for the first time since 2021, the Scorpions are the No. 1 seed in Division 4.

3. Calabasas (19-9, 10-5 Marmonte League)

Comment: The defending CIF-State Division II regional champions are experienced and talented enough to make some noise in Division 1.

Comment: The Lions can beat anyone when Jack Laubacher is on the mound.

5. Santa Paula (16-9, 12-0 Citrus Coast League)

Comment: Fresno State commit Tyler Antwine leads the county in home runs (8) and is second in hitting (.446), doubles (11) and runs scored (31).

6. Moorpark (15-10-1, 7-4-1 Coastal Canyon League)

Comment: The Musketeers bring a seven-game winning streak into the postseason.

7. Newbury Park (15-12, 6-9 Marmonte League)

Comment: Cade Falsken leads the county in runs scored with 32.

8. Rio Mesa (16-10-1, 9-5 Channel League)

Comment: Austin DeMello is hitting .360 with eight doubles, a triple and three home runs for the Spartans.

9 (tie). Grace Brethren (13-12, 7-0 Tri-Valley League)

Comment: Senior Nate Slaton is 6-3 with a 2.11 ERA for the Lancers.

9 (tie). Simi Valley (14-11-2, 6-5-1 Coastal Canyon League)

Comment: The always-dangerous Pioneers enter the playoffs with six pitchers who have better than a 2.00 ERA.

Comment: The deep Highlanders have seven sophomores who have thrown innings this season.

The Star's Softball Top 10

1. Camarillo (20-6, 8-0 Coastal Canyon League)

Comment: A Coastal Canyon League championship season earned the Scorpions a first-round trip to Anaheim-Canyon, the No. 5-ranked team in the state per CalHiSports.com. The CIF-SS Division 1 softball playoffs have no chill.

2. Oaks Christian (20-4, 8-2 Marmonte League)

Comment: Ilove’a Brittingham’s three-home run game at Westlake last week earned her CalHiSports.com’s Southern California Player of the Week honors.

5. Agoura (11-7, 7-3 Marmonte League)

Comment: Led by sluggers Mia Gomez and Amaya Del Olmo, the Chargers scored 105 runs in just 10 Marmonte League games.

6. Westlake (18-8, 6-4 Marmonte League)

Comment: The Warriors open the Division 2 playoffs Thursday with a trip to Tesoro.

7. Newbury Park (20-5, 5-5 Marmonte League)

Comment: After earning an at-large selection in Division 4, the Panthers have the weapons to make an impact in the postseason.

8. Royal (13-7, 5-3 Coastal Canyon League)
