Senior quarterback Rahshan LaMons of state champion Tatnall is the Offensive Player of the Year and leads the All-Class 1A football team released Monday by the Delaware Interscholastic Football Coaches Association.
Despite being slowed by a severely sprained ankle, LaMons rushed for 51 yards and two touchdowns and completed 8 of 9 passes for 149 yards and two more scores on Saturday as Tatnall downed Charter of Wilmington 26-7 in the 1A championship game at Delaware Stadium. It was the first football title in school history for the Hornets.
Indian River senior Rashad Hopkins was named the Class 1A Defensive Player of the Year.
Seaford senior Roman Maddox – who made the first team at both guard and defensive tackle – was named the 1A Lineman of the Year.
Three other players made the first team at two spots: LaMons (QB and kick returner), Charter of Wilmington junior L.J. Aldas (tight end and linebacker) and Tatnall junior Jack Homer (guard and defensive end).
