Sonora's Edgar DeLuna voted Standard-Times High School Athlete of the Week

After leading the Broncos' explosive running game to a double-digit win over Coahoma in Week 2, Sonora's Edgar Deluna was voted as the Standard-Times Athlete of the Week.
DeLuna ran the ball 17 times for 256 yards and four touchdowns to go with two receptions for 21 yards on offense. On defense, he recorded 14 tackles, two tackles for a loss, an interception and a forced fumble in last week's win.
Deluna received 810 votes which was 37.29% of the 2,172 total votes cast.
Junction volleyball's Kyla Lumpkins was a close second with 776 votes.
The Standard-Times is taking weekly nominations and will release a list of finalists for the High School Athlete of the Week each Tuesday.
Nominations are due by 5 p.m. Monday and can be submitted through email at sports@gosanangelo.com or by messaging the Standard-Times on X (formerly known as Twitter) @sast_sports.
Students can only be named Athlete of the Week one time per season, per sport, and athletes from one school cannot win more than three consecutive weeks.
Students in all varsity sports are eligible to be nominated. The poll will close at 2 p.m. Thursday and the winners will be announced each week.
