Spring training baseball 2024: What to know about the Rays, Orioles, Pirates and Braves
The biggest news for the area after Major League Baseball teams announced their spring training schedules is the Tampa Bay Rays will return to Port Charlotte for spring training in 2024.
Displaced last spring because of damage to Charlotte Sports Park by Hurricane Ian, the Rays trained at Disney Wide World of Sports in Lake Buena Vista and played Grapefruit League games at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, their regular season home.
The Rays will play 13 home games in Port Charlotte this spring, beginning with their Grapefruit League opener Feb. 24 against the Atlanta Braves.
Detroit, the Yankees, Boston, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, Toronto, Minnesota, Baltimore also will make trips to Charlotte Sports Park.
Also, the Rams will play two exhibition games in Puerto Rico March 9 and 10 against Boston and Detroit March 26 at Tropicana Field.

Baltimore Orioles
The Orioles will play 16 games at Ed Smith Stadium in Sarasota, beginning with the opener Feb. 24 against Boston.
Baltimore will play nine different opponents at home: Tampa Bay, Detroit, Pittsburgh, the Yankees, Minnesota, Toronto, Philadelphia, Atlanta along with the Red Sox.

Pittsburgh Pirates
The Pittsburgh Pirates will play 16 games at LECOM Park in Bradenton.
The Pirates’ home opener is Feb. 25 against Baltimore.
Other teams making the trip to Bradenton are Atlanta, Detroit, Tampa Bay, Toronto, Minnesota, Philadelphia, Boston and the Yankees.
Highlights
• March 10: The Pirates will host the Philadelphia Phillies for the only time.
• March 17: The Pirates will host the Tampa Bay Rays on St. Patrick’s Day.
• March 23: The Pirates host the Boston Red Sox for the only time.
• March 24: The Pirates will host the New York Yankees for the only time.
• March 25: The spring training campaign concludes with a home game against the Toronto Blue Jays.

Atlanta Braves
The Atlanta Braves will play 16 games at CoolToday Park in North Port, beginning with the home opener Feb. 25 against Boston, which is listed as one of six premium games on the schedule.
Other premium games are Philadelphia (March 5), Baltimore (March 9), Pittsburgh (March 16), Boston (March 17) and the Yankees (March 21). Premium pricing is the same as last year, according to the Braves.
Other teams visiting CoolToday Park are Detroit, Tampa Bay, Minnesota and Toronto.
