Aug. 29—Lady Hatchets fall to Gibson Southern

FORT BRANCH — WHS had a 3-0 girls' soccer loss to Gibson Southern on Tuesday on the road.

"I am proud with the work ethic tonight. Gibson Southern has a solid group of seniors that definitely beat us on knowledge of the game. A few key players who step up for us tonight were Cassie Dillon as striker, Alison Hill in center mid, and Maddy Johnson in the back line," said coach Madi Lee.

They play Tell City at the Complex at 6:30 p.m. in a varsity-only start.

Cougs get 3-2 win

DUBOIS — North Daviess continued its strong season with a win over Dubois on Tuesday.

At No. 1 Max Toy lost 7-5, 2-6, 4-6 against Aiden Buchler. At No. 2 Blake Huff, lost 6-2, 5-7, 4-6 to Drew Schroering, ND's Rex Freed beat Eli Schroering, 7-6 (7-2), 6-0 at No.3.

In doubles, Aiden Pridemore/Cam Sassano won, 1-6, 7-5, 6-4 over Elijah Buechler/Carson Beck, and Coby Loheider/ Aden Graber beat 7-5, 6-4 over Jonah Klem/ Caleb Lampert.

JV wins came from Nate Resler/ Grady Callison, and Nate Resler/ Collin Lengacher.

"Cougars get a huge win go to 7-0 after experiencing tight matches across the board. Freshman Rex Freed regains his composure after losing a big lead in the first set in his first varsity match. Both doubles teams stepped up for wins tonight with two doubles winning in straight sets, and one doubles regrouping after dropping the first set to take down the Jeeps," said Adam Schutte.

ND will go back on the road Thursday evening with a tough road match at Vincennes Lincoln.

Lions fall to Trinity

The Loogootee varsity volleyball team was defeated by Trinity Lutheran, 12-25, 6-25, 22-25.

Serving points came from Sydnee Wittmer with 8 and 3 each for Breanna Courter, Madison Ramsey, and Addy Lengacher. Madison Ramsey had two aces, and Alana Hedrick had 4 kills and 3 each for Wittmer and Cacia Wilcoxen. Lengacher led with 8 assists and Sydnee Wittmer had five. Blocks came from Alaina Diamond with 3 and 2 each for Ramsey and Wilcoxen. Breanna Courter had 9 digs and Sydnee Wittmer had eight.

Loogootee's Junior Varsity was defeated by Trinity Lutheran in two sets, LHS will host Orleans on Thursday at 6 p.m.

Vikes stay unbeaten

MONTGOMERY — The Barr-Reeve tennis team won their match against Southridge 5-0 at Barr-Reeve on Tuesday night to go 5-0 on the season.

At No. 1, Donnie Miller beat Broghan Fuhs 6-0, 6-1, Xavier Meiring beat Aidan Wibbeler 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2 and Kierson Lengacher won by default. In doubles, Ethan Stoll and Isaac Madison beat Heith Steckler and Jackson Buse, 6-0, 6-1, while Kyle Graber and Levi Lester beat Raiders Will Sickbert and Jacob Tempel, 6-0, 6-0.

Vikes VB falls to Memorial

MONTGOMERY — On Tuesday, the Vikings hosted the Evansville Memorial, and lost the match 1-3 (25-23, 16-25, 14-25, 18-25). The Vikings were led by Karter Burris with 13 kills, Addison Jones had 14 assists, 18 digs, and four blocks, and Hallie Knepp added three aces.

The Vikings move to 7-3 and are off till Saturday when they host their own tournament. Saturday, the Vikings will play Trinity Lutheran, Perry Central, and Mater Dei.

Hatchets comeback for win

HUNTINGBURG — The WHS boys soccer team beat Southridge in a rescheduled PAC match-up between the two possible sectional opponents.

WHS beat Southridge, 4-3, on Monday. Dom Mattingly and Chris Meredith each had two goals in the second half.

"We were down 3-0 at half and cane out and found a way in the second half. I'm really proud of the boys. We had a very poor first half, and we regrouped at half time and responded brilliantly, against a much-improved Southridge squad," said coach Evan Stoll.

Vikes fall at Dubois

DUBOIS — The Barr-Reeve Vikings varsity soccer team travelled to play their first conference game against the NE Dubois Jeeps. Although the Vikings did a great job holding the majority of the possession, they were defeated 2-0. There were several opportunities that just didn't fall into the back of the net for the Vikings. The Jeeps currently lead the Blue Chip Conference, and the Vikings return to conference play on Friday evening against Washington Catholic.

The game will be held at Rees Field with kickoff scheduled for 5:30 p.m. The Vikings are now 3-1 on the season.

Cougars stay unbeaten

Cougars move to 6-0 with ease with a victory over the BNL Stars. From top to bottom it was the most complete match we've played this season. Convincing straight sets wins from Varsity and JV alike. Tuesday night Cougars travel to NE Dubois.

ND took every spot, as Max Toy beat Jayden Kemp, 6-3, 6-1, Cam Sassano downed Orion Hill, 6-1, 6-0 and Blake Huff won 6-2, 6-2 over Jackson Corey.

ND also took both doubles spots as Aiden Pridemore/ Carter Jessie won 6-2, 6-1 over Drew Stephenson/ Neal Patel. At No. 2, Coby Loheider/ Aden Graber won 6-0, 6-1 over Gavin Baker/ Braxton Fugate.

ND also took all the JV matches, getting wins from Rex Freed, Nate Resler , Braylin Pridemore/ Collin Lengacher and Will Murrie/ Grady Callison.

Vikes blank Paoli

PAOLI — The Barr-Reeve tennis team won its match over Paoli 5-0 on Monday night to go 4-0 on the season.

At No. 1, Donnie Miller beat Raygar Minton, 6-2, 6-0, At No. 2, Xavier Meiring beat Kirkland Hughes 6-1, 6-0, and Kierson Lengacher beat Jonny Shellenberger, 6-3, 6-3 to complete the singles sweep.

In doubles, Ethan Stoll and Isaac Madison beat Colton Henderson and Blaze Knapp, 6-0, 6-2, Kyle Graber and Levi Lester beat Klay Turner and Jason Beavers, 6-1, 6-2 to make it 5-0.

"It was good to get back to matches again. With the heat last week, we have been off for a while, so it was nice to see our players respond well. Hopefully we can carry some of our momentum into the rest of the week," said Viking coach Brock Higgins.

B-R also won all their matches, as wins came from Grant Armes, Alex Guinn, Brody Swartzentruber and Ben Lester, Collin Graber and Daniel Underwood.

ND beats North Knox

ND downed North Knox in a great 5 game match in local volleyball, 11-25, 25-22, 25-22 were they trailed 16-3 before storming back for the win. 11-25, 15-8. Cougars are now 7-5 on the season.

The JV also won, 25-12, 25-18.
