Sports Recap: Coldwater hosts Cardinal Golf Invitational

COLDWATER – The Coldwater Golf Club played host to 25 different schools Thursday for the annual Coldwater Cardinals Golf Invitational.

The invitational welcomed some of the absolute best teams in the state and lived up to the expectations with an exciting day of golf.

Coldwater finished in fifteenth place overall after shooting a team score of 370.

Leading the Coldwater effort was Talan Eberts who carded an 82 followed by Dracyn Foster who finished the day with an 86. Rounding out the Cardinals effort was Jake Fosdick with a 98; Cooper Nelson with a 104; and Rayce Johnson with a 109.

The Quincy Orioles were also in attendance and finished in twenty-first place with a team score of 389.

Pacing the Orioles effort was senior Grant Carter who finished with a 94, followed closely by sophomore teammate Caleb Bostic who carded a 95. Rounding out the Oriole effort was Keegan Neely with a 99; Braylon Estlow with a 101; and Isabelle Neely with a 121.

The team from Gull Lake took home top honors, winning with a score of 302, followed by Portage Central in second place with a score of 317, and Hillsdale Academy in third with a score of 318.

Hillsdale Academy was led on the day by Coldwater native Rykert Frisinger who carded a solid score of 75 while Quincy native Lincoln Knirk finished with an 85. Hillsdale’s low score came from senior Ridley Fast with a 72, one stroke off the winner, Cody Rowe of Northwest, who finished with a great score of 1-under par 71.

Coldwater tennis falls to Hastings

COLDWATER – The Coldwater Cardinals girls tennis team fell to Hastings Thursday night, falling by the score of 5-3.

Earning wins for Coldwater were Julianna Cowles at no. 2 singles; the no. 1 doubles team of Luci Cunningham and Carly Krzyzanski; and the no. 3 doubles team of Kinley Brown and Alexis Wood.

In junior varsity tennis it was Charlotte Calhoun and Lydia Villa picking up wins for the Cardinals.

Coldwater will be back in action on Friday when they host Charlotte.

Bronson tennis sweeps Leslie

BRONSON – The Bronson Viking tennis team blanked Leslie Thursday, winning by the score of 7-0.

Taking wins for Bronson were Cheyanne Villasan at no. 1 singles; Aleah Brackett at no. 2 singles; Wyant at no. 3 singles; Haley Francom at no. 4 singles; the no. 1 team of Ramsey and McLatcher; the no. 3 doubles team of Carillo and Meyers; and the no. 4 doubles team of Pinon and Gump.
