Shake honored by IHSAA

The IHSAA has announced that WAMW's DeWayne Shake will receive the Distinguished Media Service Award for his contributions to education-based athletics. DeWayne will be recognized on Saturday when the Washington Hatchets host the North Daviess Cougars in boys' basketball at the Hatchet House. IHSAA Commissioner Paul Neidig and Sports Information Director Jason Wille will make the presentation.

Lady Hatchet time change

North Posey only has a varsity team this year. The WHS-NP on Dec. 7 will be varsity only at 7 p.m.

B-RJH Lady Vikes win

MONTGOMERY — Barr Reeve Junior High Lady Vikings were back on the home court Thursday night against Princeton.

The seventh grade led the whole way to a 28-17 victory. JJ Knepp led the way with 14 pts. Molly Jo Anderson tallied six. Avery Wittmer and Brielle Knepp chipped in two pts each. 7th grade is now 5-1 on the season.

The eighth grade Lady Vikings won 28-13. Great defense was a good part of the reason for the victory. Shelby Dodson led the Vikings with 13 points, Avery Wittmer helped with the scoring getting five. Shay Knepp had four, JJ Knepp had four and Ava Graber scored two. 8th grade is 5 — 0 on the season.

Both teams have a couple of tough games next week at North Knox and home against Jasper.

NDJH wins 2

CLAY CITY — The North Daviess Junior High Lady Cougars came away with two SWIAC victories Thursday Night at Clay City.

The seventh graders (6-1, 5-0) got off to a quick start 19-2 at half and ended up winning 25-6. They were led by Bristol Lengacher with seventh points followed by Karli Clidienst and Natalie Wagler with four points each. Aubrey Ferguson added a 3 pointer and Ella Knepp, Madalynn Willmoth and Kealey Graber added 2 points each. Leah Knepp added a free throw to round out the Lady Cougars.

The 8th grade (6-1, 3-1) had a great defensive night and came out on top with a 34-0 victory. They were led by Maleah Lengacher with 13 points. Shaylee Graber was next with eight points and followed by Peyton Cate with seven points. Lola Graber added four points and Kenley Wagler had two points and four assists to round out the Lady Cougars.

WJHS 7th wins

The Washington Hatchets seventh grade boys' basketball Team won Thursday night over Southridge, 37-26. They were led by Drew Clawson with 11 points. Cole McCleese had nine, Hunter Newland and Kayl Kimmel both had six, and Dylan Stowers with five.

B-R C-team downs Orleans

The Barr-Reeve C-Team moves to 2-0 with a 47-46 win over Orleans.

Caleb Moffett led the way with 14 points, Tyler Frady had eight points and Kierson Lengacher added seven points.

B-R beats NDJH

The B-R seventh grade boys beat North Daviess, 30-20 with Hudson Neidigh leading with 14.

The Viking eighth graders won 46-27, with Jaylen Graber getting 21.

Washington Black beats NK

The Washington Hatchets Sixth Grade Black Team defeated North Knox Thursday night 26-14 at home improving to a 2-1 record.

Nolan Brower had eight points, Landon Frady had 6 points, Hudson Goble five points, Zade Niehaus four, Beckham Gilley with three.

B-R 5th, 6th take 2 from Valley

The fifth grade Lady Vikes defeated Springs Valley 23-10, with Megan Anderson leading with six, Brenlyn Madison and Kiera with four each,

The sixth graders posted a 30-11 win, with Shay Moffett and Ella Shake getting 12 each, and Bella Trousdale had four.

B-R 6th downs SK

MONROE CITY — The Barr-Reeve A and B teams beat South Knox on Tuesday.

The Viking A-team won 29-25, Noah Cummings led with 14, Aiden Parks with five, Hunter Knepp with four, and three each from Ryker Miller and Miller Yoder.

In the B-game, B-R won 25-15, with Lance Graber with 10, Hayden Knepp with seven, four from Brant Raymond, and two each from Graham Madison and Austin Wagler.

IHSAA wrestling tourney change

The IHSAA Wrestling Regional will be at Castle, while both semi-state and state will be at the Ford Center in Evansville. It was moved from Indianapolis due to the NBA all-star game.

Lady Hatchet toy drive

The Washington Lady Hatchets Basketball Team and Gary's Gifting are teaming up to bring holiday cheer.

With the Christmas Season fast approaching, WJHS Lady Hatchet basketball and Elementary Lady Hatchets basketball teams have teamed up with Gary's Gifting, through the Washington Assembly of God. The fifth-eighth grade teams are hosting a toy drive and drop off at all their home games in the during December at Washington Jr. High Gym on 12/7, 12/9, 12/11, 12/16 and Washington Intermediate 12/4, and Washington Primary gym on 12/7.

They are asking for donations of new and unwrapped toys dropped off at home games in December. Please tag the toys with the dollar amount, age group and mark it for a boy or girl.
