Sports: Area teams ranked in pre-season basketball poll

Nov. 9—The LaPoynor Flyerettes are the highest ranked of any Henderson County basketball teams according to the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches.

The regional finalist from a-year-ago opens at No. 6, right behind the team that eliminated from the playoffs in 2022, the Martins Mill Lady Mustangs. Defending state champion Lipan, who defeated Martins Mill in the state tournament, 32-31, is rated No. 1.

The LaPoynor Flyers are ranked No. 15 in the Pre-Season Boys High School Basketball Poll.

The Flyers graduated most of the 2022 team that lost in the state final against Lipan in the Alamodome in March. Lipan, which was also a senior led team, opens this year 20th.

Martins Mill, the Flyers' chief rival in 19 AA, opens the new season at No. 1. The Mustangs lost in the regional final in Athens in March, 53-43.

In the Class 4A girls division, The Brownsboro Bearettes are slotted 14th . They open the season as the highest rated team in their district.

In Class 3A, the Malakoff Lady Tigers slipped in at No. 24.
