Spencer Steer, Matt McLain snubbed: National League Rookie of the Year finalists announced
There's no denying the Arizona Diamondbacks' Corbin Carroll is the odds-on favorite to win the National League Jackie Robinson Rookie of the Year award.
But Cincinnati Reds fans expressed disappointment via social media Tuesday when the Los Angeles Dodgers' James Outman was named one of three finalists (along with New York Mets pitcher Kodai Senga), and the Cincinnati Reds' Spencer Steer and Matt McLain were not.
Outman hit .248, with an OPS of .790. Steer hit .271, with an OPS of .820. Both players had 23 homers, three triples and 68 walks. Steer had more RBIs than Outman (86 to 70), and a lot more doubles (37 to 16) and total bases (270 to 211). Steer had 38 more hits. Outman had 42 more strikeouts. Outman had one more stolen base than Steer, and scored 12 more runs.
One also could make a case for McLain, whose rookie campaign was cut short by injury. But McLain hit .290 with 16 homers, 50 RBIs and 14 stolen bases in just 403 plate appearances. His OPS was .864.

How is Spencer Steer not a finalist?! Does MLB remember they have a franchise in Cincinnati?

Carroll will win, but Spencer Steer not being a finalist over Outman is a joke. https://t.co/kbqVx13cVx

Carroll is the runaway winner, but Spencer Steer and Matt McLain had better years than James Outman. https://t.co/PR9ohjLFqz

We all know who is going to win, but Outman being a finalist over Spencer Steer is awful https://t.co/64qx2zqLKQ pic.twitter.com/0HE0Ej0HWC

Spencer Steer and/or Matt McLain not being rookie of the year finalists is a joke

Rockies fans are understandably upset about Nolan Jones but there is something to be said about # of games played, even if Jones is clearly the better player. I bet NoJo wasn’t even the first left off. Spencer Steer is the real snub here. https://t.co/rS14r27cnb
