How Southern Miss baseball fans showed reverence for Scott Berry after super regional loss

Tears swelled in the eyes of players and coaches when Tennessee recorded the final out of the Hattiesburg Super Regional on Monday, ending Southern Miss' baseball season and coach Scott Berry's career.

As Tennessee celebrated a 5-0 victory to advance to the College World Series, the sea of yellow-and-black-clad fans stood and applauded Berry for a coaching career that made the Golden Eagles a staple of the NCAA Tournament and a force to be reckoned with in conference play.

Berry tipped his helmet to thank the packed stands at Pete Taylor Park, and Tennessee players halted their celebrations to pay respects to Berry as well.

Berry spent the past 23 years with USM and will go down as one of the best coaches in program history, as his 527 wins are a program record. He reached the super regional round of the NCAA Tournament in his final two seasons and was vying for the program's first College World Series berth since 2009.
