Friday, April 19

BASEBALL

New Bedford 10, Oliver Ames 5: Jayden Sylvia, A’Jay Rivera and Brent Sharples combined on the mound to give New Bedford (1-4) its first victory of the year. Sylvia pitched into the fifth inning, allowing four earned runs while striking out five and walking three. Rivera pitched the fifth and sixth innings and struck out two. Sharples pitched a one-two-three seventh inning. Marquise Gonsalves had three hits, including a double. He also scored three runs and had two RBIs. Joe Castelo had two hits, including a double, two RBIs and one run scored. Danny Rocha had an RBI single and scored a pair of runs along with Jack Di Matteo.

Bishop Stang 5, Seekonk 3: Matt Burt threw a complete game with 11 strikeouts, allowing three runs on three hits with two walks for Bishop Stang (2-4, 0-2 CCL). Nate Moniz had a bases-loaded single that scored two runs to put Stang on top in the seventh inning and lift the Spartans to victory for the second straight game. Nicholas Nasiff was 1-for-2 with two RBIs and a run scored. Moniz went 2-for-3 with two RBIs.

Fairhaven 7, Bourne 2: Lucas daCosta threw a complete game, allowing two runs on four hits and two walks with five strikeouts for Fairhaven (3-3, 2-1 SCC). Mike Vardo was 1-for-3 with his first varsity hit, an RBI and run scored while Evan Lamontagne was 1-for-3 with a walk and run scored. Gavin Fletcher went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs scored while Jason Perry was 1-for-4 with a double and a run scored. Scott Joseph went 2-for-4 with an RBI.

West Bridgewater 8, Old Rochester 4: The Bulldogs (3-4, 1-1 SCC) were up 4-2 in the fifth, but defensive errors cost them. Aiden Eagle went 2-for-4 with two RBIs while Noah Borgiorno was 2-for-4 with a double. Jason Tobin went 3-for-4 and Jacob Delk was 2-for-3 with an RBI. Finn Kavaneugh was 1-for-3 with a double. Tobin suffered the loss, allowing two earned run off nine hits and two walks with four strikeouts over four plus innings.

SOFTBALL

Archbishop Williams 3, Bishop Stang 1: Katie Manzone went 1-for-3 while Sophie Brousseau was walked twice for the Spartans (2-4, 1-2 CCL). Mariaelena Thomas was 1-for-2 with a walk. Alaina Chasse pitched seven innings, allowing two earned runs.

GIRLS LACROSSE

Apponequet 15, Bourne 4: Cece Levrault led the Lakers (3-1) with five goals while Abby Bradley and Jayleigh Howarth had three goals apiece. Cynthia Morales, Meri Hayward, Leah McGee and Niamh Gallagher each had one goal while Ally Arruda had four saves.

GNB Voc-Tech 8, Seekonk 3: Ella Costa notched five goals and one assist to power the Bears (3-2, 2-1 SCC). Anissa Paiva added one goal and two assists while Abaigael McKenon had one goal. Casalice Dias made 14 saves.

BOYS LACROSSE

Apponequet 18, Bourne 7: Will Levrault had four goals and three assists for the Lakers (3-2, 3-0). Jake Cusson added three goals and four assists while Kenny Wisniewski had four goals and one assist and Kevin O’Connor had three goals and one assist. Colin McKay chipped in with two goals and three assists and Nathan Navaga had two goals. Hunter Owen made eight saves.

Fairhaven 18, Dighton-Rehoboth 2:  Barrett Becotte had a hand in nine goals, scoring six and assisting on another three for Fairhaven (6-1, 4-0 SCC). Cam Burke added two goals and four assists while Owen Centeio and Jared Reardon had three goals apiece. James Isaksen caused four turnovers and had three ground balls.

Old Rochester 12, Somerset Berkley 0: David Lally had four goals and three assists to power the Bulldogs (3-3, 1-1 SCC). Caleb Bousquet added four goals and two assists while Henry Cooney, Brendan Foster, Chase Kuppens and Tucker Cook had one goal apiece.

Thursday, April 18

GIRLS TENNIS

Old Rochester 5, Seekonk 0: The Bulldogs (4-0, 3-0 SCC) got wins from No. 1 Neva Matos (6-0, 6-0), No. 2 Liz Houdelette (6-1, 6-0), No. 3 Emily Wyman (6-0, 6-0), the first doubles team of Caroline Houdelette and Mari Sudofsky (6-1, 6-0) and the second doubles team of Zadie Goyette and Alaina Redsicker (6-1, 6-0).

Fairhaven 4, Somerset Berkley 1: The Blue Devils (3-2, 3-0 SCC) got wins from No. 1 Elizabeth DaCunha (6-0, 6-3), No. 2 Sabrina Zheng (6-0, 6-2), No. 3 Olivia Darmofal (6-0, 6-0) and the second doubles team of Emma Cabral and Mikayla Smith (6-4, 6-3).

BOYS TENNIS

Somerset Berkley 3, Fairhaven 2: Winners for Fairhaven (1-3) were No. 1 Kole Pinto (6-2, 6-0) and No. 2 Coby Yin (6-2, 6-2).

BASEBALL

Plymouth North 10, Dartmouth 0: Dartmouth (4-1, 1-0 SEC) lost in the championship game of the Brad Martin Tournament. Cam Sorelle took the loss, allowing six runs off four hits and four walks with two strikeouts in 2.1 innings. Tom Quinn, Justin Cleaves and Donovan Burgo each had a hit for Dartmouth.

GIRLS LACROSSE

Bishop Stang 17, St. John Paul II 8: Sofie Doucet led the Spartans (3-4, 1-3 CCL) with five goals while Sydney Plouffe, Molly Kearney and Caroline Hopkins had three goals apiece and Ellie Jones chipped in with two. Bella Baptista had 16 saves.

Wednesday, April 17

BASEBALL

Old Rochester 8, GNB Voc-Tech 7: Down 7-1 early, ORR (3-3, 1-0 SCC) rallied to capture the win. Colin Mello went 2-for-3 with a two-run home run in the sixth inning to tie the game at seven. The Bulldogs walked off in the seventh inning with a sacrifice bunt by Jacob Delk and Ben Wesoly reaching on an infield error. Noah Borgiorno was 3-for-4 with a double and RBI while Aiden Eagle was 2-for-4 with an RBI. For GNB Voc-Tech (2-2, 0-1 SCC), Mark Tiffany went 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored while Chase Lagoa was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI. Dorian Fortes was 1-for-4 with three RBIs. Jhaden Reis was 1-for-2 with two walks, an RBI and a run scored.

Apponequet 6, Somerset Berkley 3: Dylan Bradley pitched a complete game, allowing one earned run off four hits and two hit batsmen while striking out four. Lucas Tremblay led the Lakers (4-0, 1-0 SCC) on offense with three hits while Nathan Levesque had a three-run home run. Bradley, Cam Sylvia and Brody Joly (two RBIs) had two hits apiece. Caiden Cyr added a hit and RBI.

Dighton-Rehoboth 7, Fairhaven 1: Nikko Morris went 2-for-3 with a walk and run scored while Colby Correia was 2-for-3 with a double for Fairhaven (2-3, 1-1 SCC). Gavin Fletcher was 1-for-1 with two hit batsmen.

BOYS LACROSSE

Apponequet 9, Old Rochester 4: Will Levrault led the Lakers (2-2, 2-0 SCC) with four goals while Kenny Wisniewski and Jake Cusson had two goals and two assists apiece. Nathan Navega added a goal while Kevin O’Connor won 10 faceoffs. Hunter Owen made 11 saves. For ORR (2-3, 0-1 SCC), David Lally had two goals while Henry Cooney added one and Brady Reardon made 17 saves.

Bishop Stang 7, Archbishop Williams 6: Eli Ikkela led the Spartans (2-3, 2-2 CCL) with three goals and one assist while Andrew Lally had one goal and four assists. Jack Ellsworth chipped in with two goals and John Goll had one. Will Sanders made 12 saves.

Fairhaven 9, Seekonk 5: Justin Marques led the Blue Devils (5-1, 3-0 SCC) with three goals and one assist while Colin Tavares had two goals and two assists and James Isaksen caused four turnovers.

Dighton-Rehoboth 16, GNB Voc-Tech 10: Kevin O’Brian led Voc-Tech (1-3, 0-2 SCC) with two goals and two assists and won 21 of 26 faceoffs with four ground balls. Nathan Pearson had a team-high eight goals and one assist while Nick Boucher had five assists and seven ground balls. Robert Fortes made 14 saves.

SOFTBALL

Apponequet 10, Somerset Berkley 2: Eva Zuber went 2-for-3 with a walk, double, three RBIs and three runs scored while Zoe Trinque was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored for Voc-Tech (3-1, 1-0 SCC). Lauren Bernaiche pitched a complete game, allowing two earned runs on seven hits and one walk with four strikeouts.

GNB Voc-Tech 17, Old Rochester 3 (5 innings): Genesis Nunes led the Bears (3-1, 1-0 SCC), going 3-for-4 with three RBIs and three runs scored while Emma Machado was 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Zoe Teixeira was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored while Janiah Cooper was 2-for-3 with three runs scored. Lauren Fernandes pitched her first varsity game, earning the victory on the mound for the Bears, giving up three runs on two hits with 10 strikeouts and five walks.

Dighton-Rehoboth 12, Fairhaven 2: Ava Morrison went 2-for-2 with two RBIs for Fairhaven (3-4, 1-1 SCC) while Emma Gomes added a hit. Aylin Haworth was strong defensively at shortstop.

Old Colony 26, Upper Cape 5: Sharon Delancey captured her first varsity win on the mound, allowing five earned runs on one hit with four strikeouts over five innings as the Cougars (1-3, 1-1 MAC Small) earned their first win of 2024. Kayleigh DeSousa went 4-for-5 and hit for the cycle with a single, double, triple and two-run home run. She scored three runs and had eight RBIs. Delancey went 3-for-5 with a double, triple, four runs scored and four RBIs while Leah Robitaille was 4-for-5 with four runs scored and two RBIs. Cori Wilkinson was 3-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and two RBIs. Lindsey Bacchiocchi stole the 50th base of her varsity career.

Milton 20, New Bedford 15: Amelia Davis went 5-for-5 with a single, two doubles and two home runs, including a grand slam, and scored four runs and had six RBIs for New Bedford (1-3). Ivy Mattos was 4-for-4 with a home run — her third in three games — and three doubles. She also scored two runs and had four RBIs.

SOFTBALL

Bishop Stang 2, Apponequet 1: Bishop Stang’s defense rose to the occasion with Apponequet having the bases loaded and no outs in the top of the fifth inning and down by one run. Sophia Brousseau caught a line drive and then threw to third for the second out. Katie Manzone got the last out on a groundout to end the inning. Manzone went 1-for-3 while Avery Clough was 1-for-2. Ava Texeira was 1-for-2 with a triple and a run scored. Kistyn Mello had an RBI sacrifice bunt. Alaina Chasse pitched seven innings, allowing seven hits with four strikeouts for Stang (2-3, 1-1 CCL). For Apponequet (2-2), Eva Zuber went 2-for-3 with a home run. Sarah DelVecchio pitched four innings, allowing two runs (one earned) off three hits and one walk while striking out six. Lauren Bernaiche pitched two shutout innings, allowing one hit and one walk with five strikeouts.

BOYS VOLLEYBALL

New Bedford 3, Catholic Memorial 0: Carter Barbosa had 21 assists for the undefeated Whalers (6-0, 1-0 SEC) while Abner Cun added seven. Juan Grau Montano had nine kills while Nick Rosa chipped in with four kills and eight aces. Davon Centeio had 14 digs and Brooklyn Rodrigues added 11.

GIRLS LACROSSE

Falmouth 13, Dartmouth 10: Grace Haskell had six goals and one assist for Dartmouth (1-4, 1-0 SEC) while Sarah Kelly added four goals and Makai Vincent had two assists.

BASEBALL

Dartmouth 5, Bridgewater-Raynham 1: Ian Rego got the win on the mound for Dartmouth (4-0) as he went six innings, allowing no runs on three hits with five strikeouts in the first round of the Plymouth North tournament. Brady Beauparland pitched the seventh inning in relief. Madden Ollila went 2-for-3 with two RBIs while Tom Quinn and Donovan Burgo each had a hit and RBI.

Whitman-Hanson 4, New Bedford 1: Trevor Roderiques led the Whalers (0-4) with two doubles and scored New Bedford’s only run. Marquise Gonsalves had two hits as well.

GIRLS TENNIS

Apponequet 4, Case 1: The Lakers got wins from No. 1 Kohana Fontinha (6-1, 6-1), No. 2 Brynn McLaughlin (6-0, 6-0), No. 3 Jillian Maher (6-0, 6-0) and the first doubles team of Jolie Decas and Emma Lahane (6-3, 6-4).

Monday, April 15

BASEBALL

Bishop Stang 7, Fairhaven 6: With one out, pinch hitter Nate Moniz had a walk-off ground-rule double in the bottom of the seventh inning to give Bishop Stang (1-4, 0-2 CCL) its first win of the season. Matt Burt was the winning pitcher, allowing no runs on one hit with one strikeout in one inning. Nicholas Nasiff started the game for Bishop Stang and allowed four earned runs on five hits and one walk while striking out four over three innings. Moniz had two RBIs while Drew Taylor went 1-for-1 with two walks and two runs scored and Seamus Keller was 1-for-3 with a walk and RBI. For Fairhaven, Colby Correia was 2-for-3 with four RBIs while Chace Feno went 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored. Scott Joseph was 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Jay Perry pitched four innings, allowing four runs on five hits and two walks while striking out six.

Old Rochester 4, Wareham 1: Ben Wesoly got the win for ORR (2-3), allowing one hit with five strikeouts over four innings. Finn Kavanaugh picked up the save. Colin Mello went 2-for-3 with a triple while Kavanaugh was 1-for-2 with a double and two runs scored. Malcolm Bean had a triple while Wesoly had a double.

Bristol-Plymouth 11, Old Colony 2: Colin Monahan went 2-for-3 with a triple and run scored while Dylan Mendez was 2-for-2 with a walk and RBI for Old Colony (2-2, 1-0 MAC). Collin Tetrault went 2-for-3 with a run scored while Aiden Deree was 1-for-3 with an RBI.

Dartmouth 7, Fairhaven 1: Megan Arruda went the distance for Dartmouth (2-4), striking out 11 batters. Paige Martins was 3-for-3 with two runs scored while Abigail Lancaster, Jillian Dubois and Hannah Garcia (RBI) each went 2-for-4. Olivia Rapoza was 1-for-4 with two RBIs. Desirae Paiva and Sarah Cabral each had an RBI. For Fairhaven (2-3), Sydney Merusi went 2-for-3 with a double and triple while Kaia Furtado was 2-for-3 with two doubles. Kennedy Allain was 1-for-2.

Wareham 16, Old Rochester 7: Madison Nereu pitched seven innings for Wareham (4-2), allowing four earned runs off seven hits with 12 strikeouts. She also went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and four runs scored. Jolee Anderson was 4-for-5 with three runs scored and four RBIs while Olivia LaCava went 2-for-3 with a double, RBI and three runs scored. Savannah Varden was 3-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored. Emily Brundage was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and Samantha Purcell was 2-for-3 with a double, RBI and two runs scored. For ORR (3-3, 1-0 SCC), Madison Mello had 10 strikeouts and went 2-for-4 at the plate. Hannah Mansfield was 2-for-4 with a two-run double. Alex Fiano was 3-for-4 with two singles and a double.

Bridgewater-Raynham 5, GNB Voc-Tech 4: Genesis Nunes went 2-for-3 with a walk, RBI and run scored for the Bears (2-1). Zoe Texeira was 1-for-3 with two RBIs while Alexia Tsonis was 1-for-4 with an RBI. Ana Tsonis went the distance on the mound, giving up five runs (three earned) on 11 hits and two walks with two strikeouts.

Somerset Berkley 8, New Bedford 4: Hayleigh Chenard allowed eight runs on 11 hits and three walks with two strikeouts. Ivy Mattos had a three-run home run and a single to lead the Whalers (1-2) on offense. Belle Almeida added a single and a double.

GIRLS LACROSSE

New Bedford 7, Fairhaven 5: The Whalers (3-3) got redemption from their 10-1 loss earlier this season to Fairhaven thanks to two goals apiece from Audrey Sousa (assist) and Jaliyah Perry. Zaria Anderson, Violet Lopes and Hannah Blanchard scored one goal apiece while Caitlyn Cordeiro had two assists. Anette Bennett-Tucker made seven saves. For Fairhaven (4-2, 1-0 SCC), Sophia Fleurent and Christina Pimentel each had two goals while Meg Powers added one.

GNB Voc-Tech 8, Old Colony 6: For Old Colony (2-2, 2-1 MAC), Abby Pitts had four goals while Maddie Caulkins and Addi Tyler each scored once. Jayleana Fernandes made seven saves.

BOYS LACROSSE

Dartmouth 15, Dennis Yarmouth 4: Lennox Massucco led Dartmouth with five goals and two assists while Jackson Hart had four goals and two assists. Jack Howart scored twice while Jacob Anuzyck (assist), Ray Gramlich (two assist), Jacob Grieve and Chance Simmons each scored once.

GNB Voc-Tech 16, New Bedford 6: Kevin O’Brian had five goals and three assists and went 16 of 20 on faceoffs to power the Bears (1-2) to their first win of the season. Nathan Pearson had nine goals and four assists while Nick Boucher added one goal and two assists. Noah Tavares recorded his first varsity goal. Robert Fortes made eight saves.

Fairhaven 6, Oliver Ames 5: Cam Burke had two goals while Will Foster caused three turnovers and had four ground balls for Fairhaven (4-1).

GIRLS TENNIS

Wareham 5, Mashpee 0: The Vikings (5-0, 1-0 MAC) got singles wins from No. 1 Booklyn Bindas, No. 2 Julia McDuffy and No. 3 Stoney Ferry.
