SouthCoast high school scores and highlights from Monday, May 8

Here's a look at the scores and highlights from Monday's high school action on the SouthCoast.

SOFTBALL

New Bedford 12, Fairhaven 0

Hayleigh Chenard threw a no-hitter for New Bedford. She struck out nine and walked seven. Jenna Nogueira led the Whalers with three hits and scored three runs. Amelia Davis had two hits and three RBIs while Lily Gonet had two hits and two RBIs. Freshman Belle Almeida had a double and two RBIs. The Whalers (7-5, 3-1 SEC) visit Dartmouth on Friday.

Wareham 18, Bishop Connolly 7

Madison Nereu pitched the Vikings to their first win, allowing three runs on five hits with seven strikeouts over five innings. She also went 3-for-6 with three runs scored. Jossalyn Anctil (three runs scored), Marina Cadena (3-for-5 with two RBIs and two runs scored), Jolee Anderson (3-for-6 with two RBIs and four runs scored), Olivia LaCava (3-for-5 with three doubles, two RBIs and three runs scored), Savannah Varden (double, two RBIs, run scored) and Emily Mancuso (3-for-4 with three RBIs) also contributed. The Vikings (1-10, 0-10 SCC) host Carver at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

GNB Voc-Tech 14, Southeastern 3

Hayleigh Silva went the distance on the mound, giving up three runs on three hits with eight strikeouts. She also went 2-for-5 at the plate. Ana Tsonis was 2-for-4 with an inside-the-park home run and four RBIs. Genesis Nunes was 2-for-5 while Emma Machado was 2-for-3 with three runs scored. The Bears (9-6, 5-4 SCC) host Old Rochester on Wednesday.

Dartmouth 5, Apponequet 3

Aubrey Carberry grounded out to drive in the winning run for Dartmouth in the bottom of the fifth inning. Megan Arruda earned the victory, allowing nine hits and three runs while striking out six. Carberry, who went 2-for-3, had a home run in the first inning. For Apponequet (7-5, 5-2 SCC), Eva Zuber went 2-for-4 with a double, and RBI and run scored and Zoe Trinque was 2-for-4 with two doubles, an RBI and run scored. Dartmouth (8-5, 2-2 SEC) travels to Bridgewater-Raynham on Wednesday.

Bishop Stang 18, Matignon 2

Mikayla Brightman went 4-for-4 with two triples and a home run, four RBIs and four runs scored to power the Spartans (5-5, 2-3 CCL). Katie Manzone (2-for-3 with a home run, three RBIs and two runs scored), Olivia Brousseau (2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored) and Ava Texeira (1-for-2 with a home run and two RBIs) contributed. Hannah Fortin pitched four innings, allowing one earned run on four hits and one walk while striking out five. Julia Duzynski pitched two innings, allowing one earned run with no hits.

Bourne 12, Old Colony 4

Too many errors cost the Cougars. Felicity Kulak went 2-for-3 with a double, a walk and an RBI while Patty Spillane was 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored. Kulak went six innings, allowing 12 runs (six earned) on eight hits and one walk with two strikeouts.

BASEBALL

Dartmouth 6, Apponequet 4, 8 Innings

With the game tied at four, Chase Lackie doubled on a 2-1 count, scoring two runs in the top of the eighth inning. Matt Lariviere (3-1) started the game for Dartmouth and lasted 6.2 innings, allowing six hits and four runs while striking out four. Louie Freitas was credited with the victory as he allowed one hit and no runs over 1.1 innings, striking out three and walking one. Aiden Smith went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Dartmouth in hits. The Lakers (5-8, 4-5 SCC) battled back from a 4-0 deficit after five innings. Gabe Zuber pitched four scoreless innings in relief, yielding two hits and two walks with three strikeouts. Offensively the Lakers were led by Austyn Travis with two hits and two RBIs. Nate Levesque (RBI), Dylan Bradley, Lucas Tremblay, Jack MacPhail and Peter Rubini each had one hit. Dartmouth (9-3, 3-1 SEC) hosts Bridgewater-Raynham on Wednesday.

Bishop Connolly 9, Wareham 1

The Vikings (0-12, 0-10 SCC) visit Carver on Wednesday.

Barnstable 9, New Bedford 0

Kyle Pisz pitched 3.1 innings of solid relief, allowing no earned runs while giving up only three hits. Offensively the Whalers were shut down by Barnstable’s pitching. Jarren Goodine and Joe Castelo had the only hits for New Bedford. The Whalers (2-11, 1-3 SEC) host Brockton at 6 p.m. on Wednesday.

GIRLS TENNIS

Wareham 3, Westport 2

The Vikings (9-3, 6-3 SCC) got wins from No. 3 Julia McDuffy (6-4, 6-4), the first doubles team of Makayla Young and Evie Francis (6-1, 6-2) and the second doubles team of Julia Bottino and Ryann Tripp (6-0, 6-3).

Fairhaven 4, Somerset Berkley 1

The Blue Devils (7-0, 6-0 SCC) swept singles action with wins from No. 1 Elizabeth DaCunha (6-3, 6-0), No. 2 Sabrina Zheng (6-0, 6-1) and Min Mu (6-1, 6-3) while Abbey Lopes and Olivia Darmofal won 6-0, 6-2 at first singles.

New Bedford 4, Bishop Connolly 1

The Whalers (3-8, 1-2 SEC) got wins from No. 1 Emma Gibney (6-0, 6-0), No. 2 Jalysa Noriega (4-6, 6-1, 6-3), the first doubles team of Maria Oliviera and Megha Patel (6-1, 7-5) and the second doubles team of Cassie Martins and Edelmis Calderon Marcano (0-6, 6-4, 7-6).

BOYS TENNIS

Somerset Berkley 3, Fairhaven 2

The Blue Devils (6-2) got wins from No. 1 Kole Pinto (6-3, 7-6) and No. 2 Isaac Petruski (7-5, 6-3).

BOYS LACROSSE

GNB Voc-Tech 9, Dartmouth 7

Kaiden Pequita scored four goals to surpass 100 for his career. Nathan Pearson added three goals while AJ Pragana had two goals and six ground balls. Brayden Webster made 21 saves and Kevin O’Brien went 10 for 16 on faceoffs and added two assists. Michael Murphy Jr. and Nicholas Boucher each had two assists. For Dartmouth, Jackson Hart had six goals while Andrew Sousa added one. JT Charrier was great in net, according to Dartmouth head coach Mark Rossi. Dartmouth faces Old Colony on Friday. Voc-Tech (2-9, 0-8 SCC) visits Bourne on Wednesday.

Old Rochester 12, Pembroke 8

The Bulldogs bounced back from their only loss thanks to four goals and one assist from Brady Lee. Zach Zutaut had three goals while John Butler scored twice. Tyler Cardinal had one goal and two assists while Andrew Nee scored once. ORR (8-1, 7-0 SCC) visits Apponequet at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

Old Colony 15, Upper Cape 3

Will Harrop led the way with five goals and four assists while Luke Meelia had four goals and three assists. Finn Donnelly added four goals. Old Colony (13-0, 12-0 MAC) visits Tri-County on Wednesday.

Fairhaven 9, Bishop Stang 5

Hugo Surprenant led Fairhaven with three goals and two assists while Jarrod Frates had three goals and one assist. Owen Centeio chipped in with two goals and one assist and Colin Tavares had a goal. Cameron Burke dished out two assists while Jared Reardon had one. Shea Cripps made 15 saves. The Blue Devils (6-6, 3-5 SCC) visit Dighton-Rehoboth on Wednesday.

GIRLS LACROSSE

South Shore 5, Old Colony 4

Abby Pitts scored three goals while Ella Morgado added one and Kathleen Simoes made six saves. The Cougars (4-7, 3-6 MAC) host Southeastern on Wednesday.

BOYS VOLLEYBALL

GNB Voc-Tech 3, Durfee 0

Curran Farnworth had a double double with 13 kills and 10 digs while Colin Stuessi added 11 kills and five digs. Evan Fagundes had 21 assists and four digs and Tayshaun Andrade recorded 21 digs. Camden Morin (six kills and two blocks) and Serrone Ramos (two kills and two blocks) also contributed. The Bears (9-2) host Brockton on Wednesday at 5 p.m.

New Bedford 3, Barnstable 1

Carter Barbosa had 32 assists and 12 service points to lead the Whalers. Connor Silva added 25 digs and 12 service points. Nick Rosa led the offense with 15 kills while Dilson DaCosta Teixeira had 13 and Amir Salih Tavares added 10. Ryan Brody had five service points. Davon Centeio was 11 of 13 on serve receive. The Whalers (7-6, 1-1 SEC) host BC High on Thursday at 5:15 p.m.
