Top Performances Week 2

Bryce Clark, Camden Catholic. Carter had 3 tackles, 3 pass breakups and 2 interceptions to lead the Fighting Irish to a 14-2 victory over West Deptford on Friday, their first triumph of the campaign. Camden Catholic lost to the Eagles 55-6 a season ago.

Julian Giambuzzi, St. Augustine. Giambuzzi made 10 solo tackles and an interception to lead the Hermits defense in a 3-0 shutout of Cherokee on Friday. It was the first time the Marlton program has been held scoreless since a 21-0 loss to Seneca on Thanksgiving in 2006, a span of 173 games, per South Jersey historian Chuck Langerman.

Myles Hansford, Bordentown. Hansford powered the Scotties to their first win of the season Friday, a 28-12 triumph over Maple Shade. He was 5-of-9 passing for 140 yards and 2 touchdowns, had 8 carries or 35 yards and another score, and made 7 tackles, 3 pass breakups and 2 interceptions on defense.

Bryce Jackson, Egg Harbor Twp. Jackson had 3 receptions for 99 yards and 3 touchdowns as the Eagles earned their first victory of the season and the first for new coach Rob Davis, a 50-23 triumph over Bridgeton on Friday night.

Kennedy Jones, Cumberland. Jones had three sacks and a forced fumble as the Colts shut out Pitman 6-0 on Friday for their first win of the season.

Joe Lyons, Atlantic City. Lyons was 16-of-24 passing for 218 yards and 5 touchdowns, and added 35 yards and a score on the ground as the Vikings handled Absegami 50-13 to improve to 3-0 for the first time since 2011.

Week 2 roundup: South Jersey high school football roundup for Week 2

Delano Mann, Bishop Eustace. Mann brought in 7 passes for 167 yards and 2 touchdowns as the Crusaders blanked Gloucester Catholic 36-0 on Saturday. It was the program’s most points in a game since beating the Rams 42-14 in 2015. It was also Bishop Eustace’s first shutout since a 10-0 triumph over Highland in 2017.

Justin Mary, Riverside. Mary had 8 carries for 83 yards and 2 touchdowns and also took a punt back to the house as the Rams set a school record for points with a 59-0 win over Lindenwold on Friday. The previous mark was 55 set in 1946 against Bordentown, according to Langerman.

Winslow wins: Cam Miller puts on show, No. 7 Winslow football upsets No. 2 Delsea

Cam Miller, Winslow. Miller had numerous highlight-reel catches, finishing with 8 grabs for 173 yards, including a game-clinching 78-yard TD with 58 seconds left, as the Eagles soared past Delsea 28-13 to end the Crusaders’ 23-game regular-season winning streak.

Damien Peterson, Rancocas Valley. Peterson recorded 21 tackles, 3 for loss, and a pair of sacks to lead the Red Devils to an 8-0 victory over Eastern on Friday, the program’s first shutout since the 2020 season-opener (a 40-0 win over Moorestown).

Heroic actions: Rancocas Valley football captain honored by police for bravery during crisis situation

Giuliano Scavetta, Washington Twp. Scavetta rushed 10 times for 137 yards and 2 TDs and added a 33-yard receiving score as the Minutemen defeated Kingsway 52-23 Friday, their first victory over the Dragons since 1965. They didn’t play from 1966-2013, but lost nine consecutive matchups dating back to 2014.

Chris Scott, Holy Cross. Scott ran 13 times for 166 yards and 4 touchdowns and had an interception on the other side of the ball in a 36-8 victory over Palmyra on Friday, the Lancers’ first win of the fall.

Dante Viccharelli, Woodbury. Viccharelli was on target in the Thundering Herd’s 48-6 victory over Penns Grove on Saturday. He was 15-of-17 for 295 yards and 4 touchdowns, and had 3 carries for 32 yards and another score. His four TD passes matched a school record held by Bryan Johnson and Andre Parker, per Langerman.

Mason Widman, Gloucester. Widman had 11 carries for 230 yards and a touchdown as the Lions handled Overbrook 41-7 on Saturday.

Michael Zarfati, Middle Twp. Zarfati grabbed a 10-yard touchdown pass with 34 seconds on the clock to propel the Panthers to a 24-22 upset of Glassboro on the road Friday. Zarfati did it all for the victors. He had 6 catches for 105 yards and 2 TDs, threw a 50-yard pass, picked off 2 passes, broke up 2 more and had 4 tackles.
