South Carolina football lands 3-star 2024 offensive tackle Mike Williams
COLUMBIA — South Carolina football picked up its second 2024 commitment in less than 24 hours from 3-star offensive tackle Mike Williams on Wednesday.
Williams is the No. 91 offensive tackle prospect for 2024 and joins three other offensive line commitments to the Gamecocks' class. No. 3 OT Kam Pringle, No. 5 OT Josiah Thompson and No. 33 OT Blake Franks — all South Carolina natives — have all committed to the Gamecocks with Thompson and Franks making their decisions in the last month.
Williams is from Baltimore and attends the same high school as current South Carolina freshman Desmond Umeozulu, a 4-star edge rusher. He joined 4-star safety Kelvin Hunter, who announced just minutes before Williams.

With the addition of Hunter and Williams, South Carolina now has the No. 7 recruiting class in the nation for 2024 and the No. 3 class in the SEC. While there is still a long ways to go until the early signing period in November, the Gamecocks have not had a class ranked that high since bringing in the No. 7 class in 2007.
The 2023 recruiting class was coach Shane Beamer's second since taking over the program in 2021 and is ranked No. 16 nationally, the program's best result since it had the No. 16 class in 2012. He also landed the first 5-star prospect of his tenure, signing No. 1 athlete Nyckoles Harbor.
South Carolina (8-5, 4-4 SEC) finished the 2022 regular season on back-to-back upsets over top-10 teams. The Gamecocks dominated then-No. 5 Tennessee and knocked off then-No. 8 Clemson for the first time in the rivalry matchup since 2013. They concluded the year with a 45-38 loss in the Gator Bowl against Notre Dame.
