Sources: Stephen Curry invited to compete in hometown NBA 3-Point Contest
Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry has been invited to participate in the NBA 3-Point Contest at All-Star Weekend in his hometown of Charlotte, North Carolina, league sources told Yahoo Sports.
The league is still rounding out its list of contestants for the Feb. 16 event, sources said.
The New York Times reported Wednesday that Dallas Mavericks forward Dirk Nowitzki also received an invite to compete in the event.
Curry, a six-time All-Star, bypassed the event last year in Los Angeles.
A career 43.7 percent shooter from beyond the arc, the 6-foot-3 guard has participated in the contest on five occasions, winning in 2015 when All-Star Weekend was in New York.
If backcourt teammate Klay Thompson makes it as an All-Star reserve, he is expected to enter the contest, sources said.
Curry, a two-time league MVP, is averaging 29.5 points, 5.2 rebounds and 5.5 assists and shooting 44.4 percent from 3-point range this season for the Warriors, who lead the Western Conference with a 34-14 record.
Steph will not be the only Curry in the field.
The league also has invited his younger brother, Seth Curry of the Portland Trail Blazers, to participate in the event, sources said.
Seth is currently second in the league in 3-point shooting at 48 percent.
