Who are the Somerset County baseball players and teams to watch in 2024?

Meyersdale pulled off two upsets in the postseason to advance to the District 5 Class 1A title game last year.

Meanwhile, North Star won WestPAC gold, but fell in its second straight District 5-2A championship game appearance.

The Red Raiders return a crop of young talent. Conemaugh Township, Berlin Brothersvalley, Rockwood and Shanksville-Stonycreek were all playoff teams last year in 1A.

North Star brings back everyone from its runner-up squad. Windber also earned a playoff berth last year. The Ramblers return six starters.

Somerset fell in the District 5-8-9 Class 3A semifinals. The Golden Eagles will have plenty of fresh faces in the starting lineup this year.

Parker Black, sr., Berlin Brothersvalley, 1B/P

Black batted .412 with 21 hits, 17 runs scored and 14 RBIs. Black also recorded four wins on the mound.

Colin Dinyar, so., Conemaugh Township, P/OF

Dinyar went 6-0 with a 2.07 ERA in seven appearances. He recorded 18 RBIs, 17 hits and 16 runs scored.

Glendon Griffith, sr., North Star, UTIL/P

Despite missing four games, Griffith batted .317 with 13 hits and nine RBIs. He went 5-1 with an 0.76 ERA in seven appearances.

Zane Hagans, jr., Somerset, 1B

Hagans batted .407 with 22 hits, 20 RBIs and 15 runs scored.

Craig Jarvis, sr., Berlin Brothersvalley, 3B

Jarvis batted .433 with a team-high 18 RBIs. He produced 26 hits and scored 20 runs.

Callen Miller, jr., Somerset, C

Miller batted .417 with a team-high 28 RBIs last season. He tallied 25 hits, including eight doubles, four home runs and scored 14 runs scored.

Christian Musser, sr., Shanksville-Stonycreek, SS/P

Musser led the Vikings with a .478 batting average, 33 hits and 26 runs scored. He added 17 RBIs. Musser recorded two wins in seven appearances.

Lucas Oleksa, jr., Windber, C/UTIL

Oleksa paced the Ramblers with a .435 batting average and was tied for the team lead in hits (27) and runs (26).

Pace Prosser, sr., Berlin Brothersvalley, SS

Prosser led the Mountaineers with a .478 batting average, 32 hits, including 10 doubles and 29 runs scored.

Andy Retassie, jr., North Star, INF

Retassie batted .333 with 21 hits, 10 RBIs and 24 runs scored.

Andrew Scalia, sr., Windber, UTIL/P

Scalia led the Ramblers with 26 RBIs. He was tied for the team lead with 27 hits and added 26 runs scored. Scalia batted .397. He allowed tallied 65 strikeouts in 38⅓ innings of work.

Ryan Sechler, jr., Meyersdale, INF/P

Sechler batted .345 with 19 hits, six RBIs and nine runs scored.

Aaron Show, sr., Rockwood, 3B/P

Show batted .286 with 16 hits, seven RBIs and seven runs scored. He went 3-3 in 12 appearances on the mound.

Nathan Show, so., Rockwood, C/P

Show led the Rockets with 15 RBIs. He batted .317 with 20 hits, 15 RBIs and seven runs scored.

Connor Yoder, sr., North Star, SS/P

Yoder batted .491 with a team-high 26 RBIs and 11 stolen bases. He added 28 hits and 20 runs scored. Yoder was 2-0 with a 1.88 ERA in seven appearances.

Larry Weaver, sr., Conemaugh Township, 1B/OF/P

Weaver batted .292 with 19 hits, 21 RBIs and 15 runs scored.

Hunter Whipkey, sr., Rockwood, 1B/P

Whipkey led the Rockets with a .359 batting average and 23 hits. He had 14 RBIs and scored 14 runs.
