How do the Somerset County athletes stack up at the PIAA Track and Field Championships?

Fourteen Somerset County individuals along with a relay team will compete for hardware at the PIAA Class 2A Track and Field Championships on Friday and Saturday at Seth Grove Stadium on the campus of Shippensburg University.

Here is how the athletes stack up against the field in their respective events.

PIAA Class 2A girls

Lynndee Ickes, sr., Berlin Brothersvalley

Ickes won District 5 gold in the 100-meter hurdles in 16.12. She is seeded 18th in the event.

Izzy Slezak, jr., Conemaugh Township

Slezak won Heritage Conference and District 5 titles in the 100- and 200-meter dash. Slezak finished eighth in the 100 and took bronze in the 200 last season at Shippensburg. She is seeded sixth in the 100 (12.27) and seventh in the 200 (25.27).

Kamryn Ross, jr., Somerset

Ross finished second behind Slezak in the 100 dash with a state qualifying time of 12.70. She is seeded 26th.

Emily Fisher, fr., Somerset

Fisher won District 5 crowns in both the 800 and 1,600 run. Fisher is seeded ninth in the 1,600 (5:11.70) and 17th in the 800 (2:23.12).

Ellie Speigle, jr., Conemaugh Township

Speigle, a Johnstown Christian student who competes in a co-op at Conemaugh Township, bested the field in the 400 dash to earn a D5 title in 59.94. She is seeded 23rd.

Baylee Sleek, so., Conemaugh Township

Sleek set a new District 5 meet record in the high jump, clearing 5-6. She is the top seed at the PIAA championships.

Katrina McCann, so., Conemaugh Township

McCann punched her ticket to Shippensburg with a D5 championship win in the javelin with a throw of 112-04. She is seeded 19th.

PIAA Class 2A boys

Meyersdale senior Tristin Ohler is seeded fourth in both the 100- and 200-meter dash at the PIAA Track and Field Championships.

Tristin Ohler, sr., Meyersdale

Ohler won both Inter-County Conference and D5 gold in the 100- and 200-meter dash. He finished fifth in the 200 last season at Shippensburg. Ohler is seeded fourth in both the 100 (10.89) and 200 dash (22.04).

Joseph McKelvey, sr., Windber

McKelvey won the 1,600 and 3,200 run at the District 5 meet. He is seeded 35th in the 1,600 (4:35.05) and 29th in the 3,200 (10:22.40).

Conemaugh Township 4x100 relay

Conemaugh Township won PIAA gold in the event a year ago. Three members of that team return this season. The team of Jon Updyke, Cameron Dunn, Garrett Tunstall and Dillon Defibaugh finished second at districts and is seeded 21st (43.85).

Dominik Hanik, sr., Conemaugh Township

Hanik captured D5 gold in the 800. He is seeded 32nd (2:03.20).

Jackson Sotosky, jr., Conemaugh Township

Sotosky won Heritage Conference and District 5 gold in the high jump, triple jump and long jump. He, along with a bevy of other competitors, are seeded sixth in the high jump (6-3). However, he cleared 6-5 at the Heritage meet. Sotosky took fifth in the long jump at Shippensburg last year, despite being seeded 16th. He is ranked 14th this year (21-09½). He is seeded 18th in the triple jump (42-11½).

Tucker Mostoller, so., Somerset

Mostoller is seeded 23rd in the shot put competing after winning a D5 title with a throw of 42-05¼.

Jordan Synowietz, jr., Meyersdale

Synowietz is seeded sixth in the discus. He claimed a District 5 championship with a throw of 152 feet.

Lukas Betcher, sr., Windber

Betcher pulled an upset to win D5 gold in the javelin with a throw of 165-09. He is seeded ninth in the event.
