Softball: Bronson and Quincy roll in Big 8 play, Union City splits with non-league DH

UNION CITY – The Union City Chargers split on Tuesday with their visitors from Pennfield, winning game one but falling in game two.

No immediate results were made available by press time.

Bronson routs Concord in Big 8 opener

CONCORD – The Bronson Viking varsity softball team kicked off their 2024 campaign with a two-game sweep over the Concord Yellow Jackets Tuesday night, winning by scores of 21-0 and 16-1.

The Viking bats were hot from the start as the Viking secured 17 hits and 16 hits respectively, while only allowing four total hits on the night.

Game one saw Bronson roll past Concord 21-0 in five innings.

Ashlynn Harris took the win on the mound for Bronson, throwing five innings while allowing only two hits with one walk and 12 strikeouts.

Five Vikings had multi-hit games, led by Lydia Wells who finished game one going 4 for 5 at the plate with two singles a double, and a home run with four RBIs and to stolen bases.

Also putting together multi-hit games were Harris who finished 3 for 4 with a single, a double, and a triple to go with two RBIs; Ciara Blankenship who finished at 3 for 4 with two singles and a double with one RBI and one stolen base; Brealyn Lasky with a perfect 3 for 3 with one single, two doubles, and four RBIs; and Roni Bir with a 3 for 4 effort, including three singles and one stolen base.

Game two saw Bronson continue to hit the ball across the field. Notching multi-hit games were Harris with two singles, a double, one RBI and two stolen bases; Blankenship with three singles, one RBI and a stolen base; Brealyn Lasky with a single and a double and three RBIs; Roni Bir with a single and a double with an RBI and a stolen base; and Kailynn Scare with a single and a triple with two RBs and a stolen base.

Also with a good game at the plate was Lydia Wells with a triple, two RBIs, and three stolen bases; Alana Vickers with a single; Ryleigh Fee with a single and three RBIs; while Delanee Carpenter added a single and a stolen base.

“It was a good first two games for us. Everyone was able to participate and we hit the ball well,” Bronson coach Becky Gray said. “The pitchers threw well and we played defense behind them.”

Bronson is now 2-0 on the season will next compete in the Three Rivers Tournament on Saturday.

Quincy opens Big 8 schedule with dominant sweep

READING – The Quincy Oriole girls softball program kicked off their Big 8 schedule in a big a way Tuesday night, rolling past the Reading Rangers by scores of 13-0 and 18-3.

In game one it was Miley Pointdexter leading the way for the Orioles, finishing 3 for 4 with four RBIs and a run scored.

Kaylee Modert also had a multi-hit game, finishing 2 for 3 with a single and a double to go with three RBIs, one walk and two runs scored.

Josie Mescher, Payton Gross and Deziray Skirka all had multi-hit games in the win.

Hannah Brown took the win on the mound for Quincy after throwing five full innings, allowing one hit with two walks and five strikeouts.

In the game two win it was Pointdexter finishing her big day at the plate going 3 for 4 with three singles, five RBIs and three runs scored.

Deziray Skirka also had herself a day the plate in game two, finishing a 3 for 5 effort with four RBIs and a run scored.

Brown again took the win on the mound for Quincy after throwing four innings, allowing three hits and three runs while striking out five and walking three.
