Social media reacts to Sean Lewis leaving Colorado for San Diego State’s head job
From tight ends coach Tim Brewster to multiple decommits, the Colorado Buffaloes football program has already seen quite a few departures just days after the regular season ended.
Now, offensive coordinator Sean Lewis is expected to take San Diego State’s head coaching job, according to multiple reports. This was expected, though, after Lewis was stripped of his play-calling duties midway through the season.
Lewis’s expected departure is also likely why a number of offensive recruits have decommited from CU in recent days. The Buffs and head coach Deion Sanders are now searching for a replacement with Lewis headed to the Mountain West.
Social media was quick to react to Lewis leaving the Buffs for San Diego State:
Going from the offense SDSU had to a Sean Lewis offense will be enjoyable for Aztec fans. https://t.co/HyLTK0aT7x

Can’t blame Lewis for leaving. His demotion during the season was bizarre. I am guessing tension had been building for weeks. But Sanders demoting Lewis for Shurmur remains a head-scratching decision when looking at the overall offensive numbers to that point. Good to see Lewis… https://t.co/g0BWjFsOUQ

Interesting path towards the SDSU job. Aztecs needed a coach that could bring offense and excitement back to that program. https://t.co/I42OgcgNE3

There it is. I knew Sean Lewis wasn’t going to stay an OC for more than one year after stepping down from the Kent State head coach job.
Fantastic get for San Diego State. Can’t wait to watch the Aztecs completely transform their offense. https://t.co/r4VKPFDa19

Sean Lewis. Interesting.
There is a high ceiling for this guy. But some definite unknowns. There's no doubt the offense improves. He hopefully learned about NIL and transfers from Deion.
The Kent State OOC schedule was insane, but his teams beat the opposition they should beat.

What a hire man, it’s no shock Colorado imploded when Sean Lewis got his playcalling duties taken away. So excited for what he brings to Snapdragon. Very curious as to whether or not he can bring Danny O’Neill with him.

Sean Lewis went from the hottest OC in college football to demoted to San Diego State's head coach, all in the span of 3 months. https://t.co/ztEPyymQhk

This will unfortunately receive negative response by some because they can’t think rationally, but it would’ve been interesting to see Sean Lewis as OC without the coaches son at quarterback. 🏈🦬

From Kent State to Colorado to San Diego State?@AztecFB appears to closing in on Sean Lewis as the next head football coach.
Lewis was HC at Kent St from 2018-22, before joining Deion Sanders staff as OC at Colorado this past season.— Todd Strain (@TODDSTRAINNBCSD) November 28, 2023
Sean Lewis went from coaching in Kent Ohio, to Boulder, Colorado, and now to San Diego. He won, man.

Leaving Kent State to go to Colorado where you get demoted only to land in San Diego. Sean Lewis is living right https://t.co/4cyLE4QBqy

Good for Sean Lewis. He's an innovated offensive mind, organized, and clearly, a strong administrator seeing what he did at Kent State. He was bizarrely scapegoated by Prime this year, when he wasn't the problem. https://t.co/B1z8Z3IR6z

Sean Lewis is going to cook in the Mountain West! https://t.co/CCVWDC5cXt

Love it. SDSU has great branding, a beautiful city, and has been running a western Iowa style of football that is so bland and boring.
That Sean Lewis offense there is gonna be a big winner for full slate CFB enjoyers like myself https://t.co/DWWI9lV6dQ
