Social media reacts to the Oklahoma Sooners 31-24 win over BYU
It wasn’t the prettiest win for the Oklahoma Sooners in their 31-24 victory over the BYU Cougars. But it was a win nonetheless. Provo provided a fantastic backdrop for the Sooners final road game as a Big 12 member. Sooner Nation loved the scenic views of Utah ahead of today’s game.
The Sooners moved to 9-2 on a day when the defense wasn’t at its best and the offense lost starting quarterback Dillon Gabriel to a concussion. Jackson Arnold stepped in after halftime and played well enough for the Sooners to get a win, but Oklahoma needed some big-time defensive plays in the second half to come out on top.
It was a big day for Billy Bowman, who had a key interception return for a touchdown. Danny Stutsman came up big despite dealing with an illness.
In Gavin Sawchuk, it feels like the Sooners have found their running game. Sawchuk posted his third straight 100-yard day and capped it off with a 16-yard game-winning touchdown.
It was a solid road win for the Sooners who continue to show they’re a different team than the one that took the field a year ago.
Here’s how social media reacted to the Sooners 31-24 win over BYU.
Danny Stutsman's Flu Game

Imagine what it would look like if he were healthy
No excuses…haven’t eaten in 2 days lol

Stuts a legend for this
More Stutsman on food poisoning: "It’s not something fun you want to deal with. Oh my, God, the flight, it was terrible. I could go on and on, but hey, we got the dub. We did what we had to do." #Sooners

Jeff Lebby threw to win the game
Thank you JEFF LEBBY.
It would have been so easy to run the football there, but you went and WON THE FOOTBALL GAME!

Did what they had to do to win the game
I understand that everyone wants to hit the panic button, but to say they have “deep rooted issues” seems dramatic. This is college football. Winning is hard, especially on the road.
This team isn’t great. But they have a chance to win 10-plus games. Take the win. Move on. https://t.co/rBkMJKhTk2

Gavin Sawchuk ran HARD
What a freakin' run by Gavin Sawchuk. Breaking tackles and carrying BYU defenders into the end zone for a 16-yard TD run. #Sooners up 31-24 with 7:57 left in the game.

Tried to win the game
Even though it didn’t work, I loved the deep throw to Anderson late. I mean, like, I’d order it again. Imagine I will still feel the same after a sleep.

Jackson Arnold showing tools
That slant throw to Jalil, and now knowing he audibled into that call.
Jackson’s release is quicker and his balance, first step when escaping pressure is much more explosive.
That being said, still looked rattled at times and missed some easy things but he’ll tighten that up…

Not a great defensive performance
I can’t wait to hear @TedLehman11 thoughts on this defensive performance.
Playing scared, playing not sound at all, busts everywhere.
This was an offense we were told would be lucky to score double digits on us.
Well 24 points later here we are.
Getting whatever they want in…

Work in progress
The great Bobby Bowden once said, First you lose big, then you lose close. Then you win close, and finally you win big.”
This team is far from perfect but they folded in close games every time a year ago. Not to mention the most talented players are young sans Guyton.

Just Win Baby
Glad we got outta there with the Dub! I absolutely loved Lebby’s 1st Down call with 5min left in the Fourth.

Never Forget
OU lost it’s starting QB to injury and the backup QB came in and won the game.
That one was for you Sam Bradford. Nature is healing.

Kicking is a problem
I understand that OU doesn’t have a better option than Schmit, but my word… he can’t be the guy next year under any circumstances.

Important Win
Something that just struck me: Saturday was Oklahoma’s first win in a one-score game on the road under Brent Venables
Previously, the #Sooners only two wins in one-score games the last two years came against Texas (in Dallas) and UCF (in Norman)
Progress?

She makes a good point
Oklahoma Football came out of a hostile environment with a win. Why are people mad about that?

Billy Bowman a gamechanger
Billy Bowman is one of the better defensive football players I have watched at Oklahoma in a very long time. Can’t believe it’s already decision time for him in the next few weeks. He will be missed if he decides to go.

It's an Oklahoma WIN 😮💨
Not really a great response after last week. Obviously, extenuating circumstances, though. And OU collectively—but in particular defensively—made just enough timely plays.
A win is a win is a win.

The most important reminder
Hey, we don’t have to be winless against BYU for all eternity.
