Social media reacts to Jamal Murray's half-court buzzer beater vs. Timberwolves in NBA playoffs

Jamal Murray had just 1.6 seconds remaining and 55 feet of an NBA court in front of him, but as it turned out, that’s all he would need.

The former Kentucky basketball star, now a guard with the Denver Nuggets, hit perhaps the most outrageous shot so far of the 2024 NBA Playoffs, swishing a 55-foot buzzer-beater right before halftime after collecting an errant pass from Nickeil Alexander-Walker of the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Following the shot, and shortly before he was mobbed by his teammates, Murray stared down at TNT play-by-play broadcaster Kevin Harlan, who was courtside right next to where Murray launched his high-arching prayer.

The basket capped off an extraordinary sequence in which the reigning NBA champion Nuggets finished the first half on an 8-0 run, with five of those eight points coming in a span of just 1.6 seconds. Immediately before Alexander-Walker’s inbounds pass that ended up in Murray’s hands, Denver’s Michael Porter Jr. got a transition dunk after teammate Nikola Jokic forced a turnover on the other end.

With those baskets, the visiting Nuggets went into halftime with a 64-49 lead in Game 4 of the teams’ Western Conference semifinals matchup, which the Timberwolves lead 2-1.

The miraculous shot proved to be a catalyst for Murray, who followed it up with 13 points on 5-of-8 shooting in the third quarter. Not surprisingly, Murray’s buzzer-beater set social media ablaze. Here’s a sampling of the reaction to it:
