How social media is reacting to Brewers trade for Carlos Santana from Pirates
The Milwaukee Brewers have a new veteran first baseman for their 2023 playoff push after acquiring 37-year-old Carlos Santana from the Pittsburgh Pirates as the trade deadline approaches.
The Brewers are sending 18-year-old Jhonny Severino to Pittsburgh.
With Rowdy Tellez injured for the foreseeable future and the team struggling most of the season to generate any power at the first base position, this was a major need. Santana has 290 career home runs with his career best coming in 2016 and 2019 when he hit 34 both seasons.
Here are some instant social media reactions from the Brewers' and Pirates' perspective. And yes, there were some Carlos Santana — the musician — jokes.

Brewers get a bat. Looking forward to seeing him, Yelich, and Contreras do some damage https://t.co/NQF1H24vfu

Milwaukee is a much much much more home run friendly park than PNC Park was. This gives Santana some interesting rest of season value 👀#FantasyBaseball https://t.co/5qFfEaWEal

Key part of this trade is picking up a bat while not sacrificing anything on the Defensive side of the team. Love the move. https://t.co/p1lwnLfw21

You have to think that the Pirates probably heavily scouted Severino before the Brewers signed him. It’s hard to get excited about lottery ticket trades, but I don’t mind this one. Santana wasn’t going to bring back a haul. This is fine. #LetsGoBucs https://t.co/OZAI7XJzAK
