Smash Mouth harshly trolls Bryce Harper over boos from Phillies fans

Bryce Harper's career with the Philadelphia Phillies is off to a less than ideal start.

Just two months after finalizing his 13-year, $330 million contract, Harper is already hearing boos from the Philly faithful after getting off to a slow start.

But it’s not just Phillies fans giving Harper a difficult time. He’s also being trolled by fans from the teams he turned down. Among those fans are members of the 1990s band Smash Mouth.

Before Wednesday’s game, the band’s official Twitter account went in on Harper, calling him a “jackass” before ripping into his decision to sign with Philadelphia over the San Francisco Giants.

Hey now ... that’s pretty harsh.

How harsh was it?

So harsh, it actually led some Phillies fans to stand up for Harper.

If Harper himself saw the tweet, it didn’t light a fire under him. He went 0-for-4 during Wednesday’s 7-3 win against Detroit, dropping his batting line to .231/.376/.472.

By the way, those aren’t dreadful numbers by any stretch. They’re just not $330 million numbers.

Smash Mouth made plea to sign Harper

This isn’t the first time Smash Mouth has tweeted about baseball, or Bryce Harper for that matter.

Days before Harper signed his Phillies deal, Smash Mouth’s account claimed to have “inside information” on the Giants’ pursuit of the six-time All-Star.

At the same time, the group pleaded with Giants ownership to take a stand and aggressively pursue the six-time MLB All-Star.

Well, they tried.

Smash Mouth has also been known to troll the Oakland Athletics for some of their baseball decisions over the years. In one instance in particular, that didn’t go well for them.

It’s an interesting post-fame life that the group has chosen. But if nothing else we appreciate the passion.
