Sixers talk the importance of Seth Curry to their offensive success

The Philadelphia 76ers are heading into the final stretch of the season before the playoffs begin on May 22 and there is one important aspect of their offense beginning to get back into a groove.

During a season where things have not gone as planned for Seth Curry with injuries and testing positive for COVID back in January, he is now beginning to round into form again. After shooting 3-for-5 from deep in Monday’s win over the Chicago Bulls, Curry is shooting 59.5% from deep over his last eight games. He is beginning to show off why the Sixers made the move for him and why he is so important to their team.

“He just opens up the whole offense,” said Joel Embiid who benefits the most by his presence. “By guys just making shots, there’s more space on the floor, and we can punish double teams.”

As mentioned, this has not been an easy season for Curry. He has needed to get back into shape after missing two weeks in January due to COVID and the time off combined with the virus affected him in a big way as he went into a bit of a shooting slump.

“That’s just more a product of the year,” he explained. “Me having so many setbacks personally with COVID, and then a couple of injuries, missing some time. With all of the games so close together, it’s just been hard to get in shape really all year since I missed those two weeks earlier in the season. I really haven’t been in good shape.”

The important part is, he is rounding into shape at the perfect time with the playoffs getting set to begin soon. He is going to have to play a huge role if the Sixers are to succeed in the playoffs.

“I feel pretty good,” he stated. “I’ve been working hard off the court just to try and get some cardio, try to get my legs back and I’ve been moving a little bit better without the ball and legs have been getting stronger as we go along, and that’s been the goal. Just a matter of me creating good shots and I always say if I create good shots, I’ll make a good percentage.”

Philadelphia will finish up the road trip on Wednesday when they take on the Houston Rockets at the Toyota Center.
