Sixers rising star Tyrese Maxey placed in 4A tier ranking by The Athletic

Young Philadelphia 76ers guard Tyrese Maxey is a rising star in this league. He can knock down open looks, take games over with his scoring and affect games in a big way.

He averaged 17.5 points and 4.3 assists in his second season in the NBA, and he had to do it under intense circumstances. First, he was the team’s point guard amid the Ben Simmons saga. Then he moved to shooting guard when the team acquired James Harden. That is a lot to handle for anybody who is still learning how to play at the NBA level.

As he prepares for his third season, Maxey received a lot of respect from the people over at The Athletic. As Seth Partnow continues to place everybody into tiers, Maxey earned a spot in the 4A tier with All-Star Darius Garland, Rookie of the Year Scottie Barnes and others.

Partnow on Maxey:

Tyrese Maxey and Darius Garland have somewhat opposite styles. Maxey relies on his exceptional straight-line acceleration, while Garland has quickly become adept at changing speeds and directions to befuddle opponents. Both have some questions defensively, but having a ballhandling guard who can get into the paint frequently is an enormous boost.

Maxey continues to be in the gym working out throughout the summer and this is something that he can take into the 2022-23 season and he could possibly be in the mix for an All-Star appearance. He has already made a few impressive leaps forward and he now needs to bring it even more as Philadelphia moves forward with their title hopes.
