Sixers mentioned among several suitors to trade for Nets star Kyrie Irving

The Philadelphia 76ers have made a few moves to begin free agency that will make them a tougher team, but they still need more in order to truly compete in the East and contend with the top teams in the conference.

With the current implosion happening with the Brooklyn Nets, the Sixers may look toward New York to try and acquire another star to join Joel Embiid and James Harden.

No, it won’t be Kevin Durant as the asking price for the superstar is going to be astronomical. Especially, when one considers what the Minnesota Timberwolves gave up to acquire Rudy Gobert.

Instead, it might be the other star: Kyrie Irving. Per The Athletic and The Stadium’s Shams Charania:

Kyrie Irving is one guy who, I think, we gotta pay attention to. He has several suitor involved when to talk about Lakers, Sixers, Mavericks, I would keep an eye on Kyrie Irving over the next couple of weeks as well as a guy that is likely going to potentially get moved.

Irving has only played a total of 103 games over the past three seasons with the Nets and he was limited to just 29 games in the 2021-22 season due to his refusal to be vaccinated. New York City’s vaccine mandate prevented Irving from playing in home games and the Nets kept him away from the team at the beginning of the season because they did not just want a part-time player.

He did average 27.4 points and 5.8 assists while shooting 41.8% from deep in those 29 games and he is obviously an incredible basketball player, but his lack of availability in games is such a huge issue. If Daryl Morey and the Sixers were to acquire Irving, it would certainly be one situation to keep an eye on as there is also his relationship with Harden to consider after their brief time in Brooklyn.
