Sixers’ Joel Embiid could sit out All-Star game with foot injury

PHILADELPHIA–Philadelphia 76ers big man Joel Embiid has been dealing with some left foot soreness throughout the season. He missed some games with the injury earlier in the season and recently, he has been listed as questionable with the injury in most games.

The same was for Friday’s contest with the New York Knicks. Embiid was listed as questionable with the injury before going out and dropping 35 points and 11 rebounds in a 119-108 win to end a two-game losing skid.

After the win, Embiid discussed the injury and whether he will play in Saturday’s road contest with the Brooklyn Nets.

“I’ll see,” he started. “Every game I’ve been questionable. It’s all about seeing how it feels. I got three more games to go so just trying to get there and try and get a little break to make sure that I give it some time.”

This seems to be an injury where it might just need time to heal. Unfortunately in the middle of a busy NBA season, there is no real time for him to rest other than the upcoming All-Star break.

“That’s what the doctor says,” he added. “In time, it’s gonna get better. The goal is to be ready for the second half of the season and the playoffs so that’s what I intend to do. Just take care of myself and make sure I’m in the best position possible to be able to succeed for the next couple weeks.”

In terms of the All-Star game, now that he’s been named a starter, there is no guarantee he plays in that game. The Sixers have three games left before the break as they face the Nets, the Houston Rockets, and the Cleveland Cavaliers.

“I’m not sure,” Embiid said of the All-Star game. “We’re gonna see how it goes. I got three games. I’m just taking it day by day.”
