Six Stark County-area high school baseball and softball players make All-Ohio first team
Four softball players and two baseball players earned first-team status to highlight the Stark County-area honorees on the All-Ohio softball and baseball teams from the respective state coaches associations.
Jackson's Julia Gossett and Green's Kylie Gorsuch made the Division I first team in softball after both being second team last year.
Gossett, a Purdue recruit and the Federal League Player of the Year, batted .531 and walked an area-high 35 times in 87 plate appearances. The senior totaled seven doubles, 11 home runs, 26 runs and 34 RBIs while posting an eye-popping OPS of 2.060. Gossett also went 11-4 with a save, a 1.40 ERA and 198 strikeouts in 105 innings pitching. She finished seventh in the area in batting average, tied for second in home runs, sixth in RBIs, second in ERA and second in strikeouts.
Gorsuch, a Cleveland State recruit, batted .500 with six home runs and 26 RBIs. The senior catcher helped lead Green to the Federal League championship.
A pair of Marlington softball seniors made the first team in Division II. Pitcher Sofia Nase and infielder Emma Jackson were honored after leading the Dukes to an Eastern Buckeye Conference championship and a regional runner-up.
Nase completed the pitching triple crown, leading the area in wins (20-1 record), ERA (0.80) and strikeouts (206 in 132 innings). She was the EBC Player of the Year. Jackson led the area with 48 runs. She batted .500 with 11 doubles, five triples, nine home runs and 35 RBIs.

Marlington's Tommy Skelding and Manchester's Owen Canter both earned first team in baseball.
Skelding, a University of Kentucky recruit and a Division II first teamer, batted .482 with 15 doubles, a triple and a home run. His average was second in the area. He drove in 25 runs, scored 26 times and stole 24 bases. Last year's Repository Stark County Player of the Year and EBC Player of the Year, Skelding was limited to DH duties this season because of an elbow injury that requires surgery.
Canter, a Walsh University recruit and a Division III first teamer, delivered a dominant season on the mound for Manchester. The senior right-hander struck out a whopping 101 batters in 60 innings while posting a 0.35 ERA. Both marks led the area. He holds school records for single-season and career strikeouts. Canter went 6-2 and tossed two no-hitters. He also batted .365 with two home runs and 13 RBIs.
