The South Dakota Little League baseball team’s tournament run ended Friday in a 9-7 loss in the Midwest Region Championship against North Dakota.

The North Dakota Little League baseball team had been on fire for most of the tournament, scoring 31 runs in their first two games. Their hot hitting hit a buzzsaw in the Sioux Falls Little League team Wednesday. The team from South Dakota held North Dakota to only three runs in that matchup.

But North Dakota struck first in Friday’s championship game, scoring three runs in the top of the first. Sioux Falls rallied back in the bottom of the third to tie the game at four apiece, but a five-run inning from North Dakota in the fifth all but sealed the victory and their spot in the Little League World Series.
