Sidney Crosby hits in mid-air goal to give Penguins overtime win against Devils

Baseball fans in Pittsburgh were forced to miss out on all the opening day fun on Thursday, as the Pirates’ game against the Tigers was rained out.

They weren’t short on baseball action, though. Sidney Crosby took care of that.

Crosby and the Penguins were in a tight bout with the New Jersey Devils that couldn’t be decided in regulation. Just 19 seconds into the extra period, Crosby made a play on the goal.

He fired a shot past New Jersey goalie Keith Kinkaid, but the puck ricocheted off the post and came right back to him. Crosby, in true opening day fashion, took the puck and slapped it out of mid-air right past Kinkaid and into the net, winning the game 4-3 for the Penguins.

While it looked more like a bunt than a homerun, Crosby certainly made up for the lack of baseball in Pittsburgh on Thursday.

The goal Thursday comes just more than a week after Crosby batted in another incredible goal in mid-air against the Canadiens.

Thursday’s goal marks Crosby’s 28th of the season. Pittsburgh currently sits in second place in the Metropolitan Division standings.
