CLASS A SOUTH

Toms River East 11, Southern 7: The win by Toms River East (12-10, 8-6) over the Rams (14-7, 10-4) means Class A South ended up in a three-way among Southern, Jackson Memorial (16-7, 10-4) and Brick Memorial (16-8, 10-4).

For Southern, it is its first divisional championship since it won Class A South in 1986. It is the fifth straight season Jackson Memorial has won at least a share of the divisional title and it is Brick Memorial's first divisional championship since it won Class B South in 1995. Brick Memorial has never won a Class A South championship.

Southern Regional will try to clinch the outright Shore Conference Class A South championship Friday when it plays at Toms River East.

Southern 4, Jackson Memorial 3: Southern (14-6, 10-3) clinched a tie for the Class A South championship for its first divisional title since 1986, with the win over the defending divisional champion Jaguars (16-7, 10-4).

The Rams can clinch the divisional title outright with a win at Toms River East (11-10, 7-6) Friday.

If Toms River East wins, that would create a three-way tie for the divisional title among Southern, Jackson Memorial and Brick Memorial (16-8, 10-4).

Monmouth 11, Neptune 5: Mike Milevoi broke a 5-5 tie in the bottom of the sixth with an RBI double, Ian Clancey, Caelin Szymanski and Joey Esposito had RBI singles later in the as the Falcons (9-13) scored six runs in the sixth and defeated the Scarlet Fliers (9-10).

Esposito, Will Theobald, Szymanski and Evan Booth all had RBI singles in a five-run second.

Esposito struck out five in two hitless innings to pick up the win and he went 2-for-4 with two RBI and a stolen base. Theobald went 2-for-3 with a double and scored two runs. Szymanski and Milevoi both went 2-for-4 and scored two runs and Booth was 2-for-5.

Quincy Essanason went 2-for-4 with a walk, a stolen base and two RBI, Brennan Moloughney went 2-for-4 with an RBI and scored a run. Kevin O'Neill was 2-for-2 with a double and scored two runs and Jack Gamba-Ellis was 2-for-3 with a walk and scored a run for Neptune.

Cranford, which was defeated by Middletown North in last season's NJSIAA Group 3 championship game, is the state's only unbeaten teams.

QUARTERFINALS

2. Red Bank Catholic 4, 7. Middletown North 2: Junior right-hander and Seton Hall University-recruit Steve Svenson pitched a complete-game five-hitter with six strikeouts and no walks and did not allow a run after the first inning and sophomore Dylan Passo's two-run single with two out in the bottom of the third put the three-time defending champion Caseys ahead to stay at 4-2 as they defeated the Lions (12-7) and snapped Middletown North's seven-game winning streak.

Red Bank Catholic's other two runs scored in the first when Passo's pop-up into shallow center was misplayed.

Middletown North had taken a 2-0 lead in the top of the first on a run-scoring wild pitch and RBI ground out by R.J. Kernan.

Ryan Frontera went 2-for-3 for Middletown North.

Red Bank Catholic will meet No. 6 seed CBA Thursday at Count Basie Park, Red Bank, in the semifinal. The Caseys defeated the Colts 3-0 in a Monmouth County Tournament semifinal on May 7.

Jackson Memorial 1: Senior right-hander and Rutgers University-recruit John Goodes pitched a complete-game two-hitter and struck out four, walked three and hit three batters and Brayden Dill's double in the bottom of the fourth scored Jack Riva with the go-ahead run as the Bulldogs (16-4) defeated the Jaguars (16-6) for their second straight 2-1 win in the tournament and advanced to the semifinal for the third straight season.

Rumson-Fair Haven will meet No. 1 seed Ranney Thursday at Count Basie Park in the semifinal. Ranney defeated Rumson-Fair Haven 4-3 in eight innings in a MCT semifinal on May 7.

Dill also played a hand in Rumson-Fair Haven's first run in the second when he doubled and scored on Spencer Hobson's single.

Mike Arent homered in the fourth for Jackson Memorial's run.
