Shore Conference football stars from Week 5

The Asbury Park Press is highlighting the top Shore Conference football performances each week during the 2023 season.

Jonah Glenn, Jackson Memorial

Glenn, a sophomore running back, ran for a career-high 274 yards with TD runs of 58, 5 10, and 34 yards in the unbeaten Jaguars' 33-13 win over Brick

Jake Czwakiel, Middletown South

A senior quarterback/defensive back and placekicker, Czwakiel ran for 101 yards and a TD on six carries, returned an interception 35 yards for a score and booted a 26-yard field goal in the Eagles' 30-14 win over Colts Neck.

Colin Palumbo, Matawan

Palumbo, a junior running back/linebacker, ran for two TDs and returned an interception for a score in the Huskies' 47-12 win over then unbeaten Pinelands

Connor Fields, Holmdel

A senior linebacker, Fields returned an interception 65 yards for a TD and was in on six tackles as the unbeaten Hornets defeated Freehold 31-0 for their third straight shutout.

Egan Nelms, Howell

Nelms, a senior quarterback, threw for 142 yards and two TDs and ran for 34 yards on six carries as Howell rallied from a 14-point first half deficit and defeated Manalapan 30-27 for its first win of the season.

James Valle, Keansburg

A junior quarterback, Valle threw TD passes to A'son Young, Jahziere Wynn and Dom Terracciano as the Titans defeated Haddon Heights 27-7 for their second straight win.

Nazir Treadwell, Keyport

Treadwell, a senior quarterback, continued his outstanding season as he rushed for 218 yards and three TDs on 11 carries and was 8-for-12 for 67 yards and three TDs in Keyport's 39-6 win over Gateway.

Matt Oliphant, Point Pleasant Boro

A senior quarterback Oliphant accounted for 300 yards of total offense and four TDs in the Panthers' 42-28 win over Rumson-Fair Haven. He was 7-for-7 for 156 yards with TD passes of 26 yards to Colin Obser, 8 yards to Brayden Forfar and 61 yards to Brian Simoes. He also ran for 144 yards with a 40-yard TD run on 18 carries.

Christian Oliveri, Toms River North

Oliveri, a senior linebacker, was in on 11 tackles, 1.5 of which were for a loss, in the Mariners' 42-6 win over Southern.

Earnest Reevey, Long Branch

A senior defensive back/wide receiver/quarterback, Reevey was in on 18 tackles, three of which were for a loss, forced a fumble that he recovered inside St. John Vianney's 5-yard line that set up what would be the winning TD and also set up a 2-yard TD run by Zaheem Brown with a 54-yard run in the Green Wave's 20-14 win over St. John Vianney. Reevey is only playing quarterback when Long Branch lines up the shotgun because he still wearing a cast on his broken thumb, head coach Chad King said.

Emanuel Ross, Red Bank Catholic

Ross, a senior wide receiver/defensive back, returned a kickoff 96 yards for a TD, had six receptions for 107 yards and had an interception and was in on four tackles in the Caseys' come-from-behind 21-16 win over Seton Hall Prep that avenged a defeat from last season.

Najee Calhoun, Donovan Catholic.

Calhoun, a sophomore running back, ran for four TDs and 134 yards on 29 carries in the Griffins' 52-28 defeat to powerful St. Joseph (Montvale).

Jackson Whitacre, Shore

A senior defensive end/tight end, Whitacre was in on eight tackles and had a reception for 17 yards as the Blue Devils rallied from a 14-point first half deficit and defeated Manchester 35-14 for their fourth straight win.

Ben Girard, Ocean

Girard, a senior defensive end, had three sacks and eight tackles, two of which were for a loss, in the Spartans' 14-7 win over Raritan.

Matt Cassidy, Marlboro

A senior running back/linebacker, Cassidy ran for 208 yards and two TDs on 28 carries, returned an interception for a TD, forced a fumble, had a sack and had six tackles, one of which was for a loss, in the unbeaten Mustangs' 28-14 win over Freehold Township.

Nicholas Maertens, Lacey

Maertens, a senior quarterback, was 7-for-10 for 130 yards with two TD passes in the Lions' 28-0 win over Central.

Anthony DeMarco, Toms River East

A junior quarterback, DeMarco was 7-for-11 for 110 yards and one TD and rushed for two TDs in the Raiders' 41-12 win over Lakewood.

Mason Adam, Wall

Adam, a junior running back, ran for 110 yards on 25 carries in the Crimson Knights' 20-14 win over previously-unbeaten Middle Township.

Trey Tallmadge, Brick Memorial

A sophomore tight end/linebacker, Tallmadge had three receptions for 79 yards and a TD and six so tackles, a sack and a pass defensed in the Mustangs' 41-0 win over Manasquan.
