Shore Conference field hockey: 18 top freshmen this season

The post-season is here for Shore Conference field hockey teams.

The Shore Conferenc Tournament will be seeded Sunday morning, the SCT championship game is Oct. 29 at Holmdel High School; the NJSIAA Tournament begins Oct. 28 and the group championship games are Nov. 11 at Bordentown High School.

As the post-season begins, we're looking at some of the unsung heroes around the Shore Conference - here we're focusing on 18 top freshmen we're keeping an eye on.

Information was supplied by coaches who responded and players are listed by alphabetical order of teams.

Shore Conference field hockey - 18 of the top freshmen of 2023

Brick Township

Lindsay Giovine

Giovine has two goals.

"She is a multi-positional player,'' Brick head coach Danielle Scipione said. "She is able to cut back and forth, as well as push and achieve a few scoring opportunities.''

Ashlee Niers

Niers is a defender.

"She dominates the back and stops in the ball in a way that makes it seem she anticipates every play,'' Scipione said. "She has great stick skills and ability to play it out and up the field.''

Central Regional

Keely Gifford

Gifford, a midfielder/forward, has one goal.

"Keely has natural athletic ability and her uses her speed and understanding of the game to get the ball to our offensive circle often,'' Central head coach Madison Demand said.

Colts Neck

Amanda Ravelo

Ravelo, a left back, has one goal. The goal came off a corner.

"Amanda is a skilled left back who is able to maintain possession coming out of our defense by using her skills to move around opponents from the left side of the field,'' Colts Neck's first-year head coach Jade Yelk said. "She has played every minute.''

Holmdel

Charlotte Wall

Wall has one goal and one assist. The goal was a game-winner in a 2-0 victory over Red Bank Catholic.

"Charlotte has endless determination in generating attack on our right side and she is a great defensive threat in the midfleld,'' Holmdel coach Melissa Murphy said.

Maria Wall

Wall is a sweeper.

"Not only does she possess great composure as a defender, but she also has strong skills and is often seen possessing the ball out of our backfield,'' Murphy said. "Maria makes big plays for our team as the last line of defense, stopping the attacking momentum in its tracks.''

Lakewood

Carla Carpinteyro

Carpinteyro is a defender.

"Her ability to get the ball out of the backfield has been key to us moving the ball up the field,'' Lakewood head coach H. Nadja Reynoso said.

Long Branch

Izabella Anechiarico

Anechiarico, a midfield/forward, leads the Green Wave in scoring with six goals.

Point Pleasant Borough

Lindsay Jordan

Jordan is the starting left midfielder. She has an assist.

"She has played heavy minutes and has great endurance and good speed,'' head coach Kelly Carr said. "She has gone toe-to-toe with some of the top players in the Shore Conference and has held her own due to her solid block tackle and fearlessness.''

Raritan

Ava Lombardo

Lombardo has started on the left side of midfield.

"She is great at stopping the ball and carrying it up the field and supporting our forwards,'' Raritan coach Kelsey Murray said.

Red Bank Regional

Reagan Glenn

Glenn is a defender.

"Reagan is a strong tackler and is quick to implement feedback to support her team,'' Red Bank head coach Caitlin Turner said. "She has made significant contributions our team defensively.''

Rumson-Fair Haven

Blake Stoner

Stone, a midfielder/defender, has three goals and three assists.

"She has great passing range, stick skills and vision of the field,'' Rumson-Fair Haven head coach Kelsi Ehehalt said.

Aly Megaw

A forward, Megaw is tied for the second on the team in goals with 13. She also has six assists.

"She has the speed and elimination skills that set her apart from other forwards in our division (Class A North),'' Ehehalt said.

Reese Lydon

Lydon, a forward, has 10 goals and seven assists.

"She possesses speed and awareness in the circle,'' Ehehalt said.

Brooke Jaenicke

Jaenicke, a goaltender, has 32 saves.

"She has taken on the task with ease and determination,'' Ehehalt said.

Shore Regional

Marielle Montenegro

A midfielder, Montenegro has 13 goals and five assists. She leads the Blue Devils in goals.

"She is an explosive, highly-skilled attacking midfielder, who is making a statement during her freshman campaign with her ability to finish against top level competition,'' Shore head coach Kelly Koenig said.

Marin Stefanielli

Stefanelli, a center back, has six goals.

"She is a disciplined, intelligent, balanced defender, who may be young, but has stepped into an important role,'' Koenig said.

Wall

Addison Penikiesky

A midfielder, Panikiesky was called up to the varsity after the season began.

"Her speed and tackling abilities has been a force difficult for the other teams to get passed,'' Wall head coach Amanda Lensen said. "She demonstrates a high spatial field IQ and is consistently being an option for others to utilize. We expect to see great things out of her in the upcoming years.''
