Shelby Whippets sweep team titles at Ontario's Bill Brown Invite

ONTARIO — It was a banner day for the Shelby Whippets.

Both girls and boys cross country teams swept the titles at the 54th Bill Brown Invite at Ontario's Marshall Park on Saturday. It was the third invite team championship for the boys team and the fifth Top 3 finish.

In the high school girls' race, the Shelby Whippets took home the team championship with 46 total points finishing ahead of second-place Crestview, which took 129. Ontario finished sixth with 171, Ashland finished ninth with 192 and Clear Fork took 14th with 370.

The Whippets were led by Emma Montgomery who took second overall with a 20:22.71 while Anna Will finished fourth with a 20:35.08. Channon Cundiff (13th; 21:15.31), Emma Mahek (13th; 21:22.31) and Kailyn Schwall (18th; 21:48.35) all scored well for the Whippets.

Crestview was led by Leyna Gerich who took fifth overall with a time of 20:49.43 while Alina Durbin finished 11th in 21:10.32. Emmie Kemp (36th; 22:41.28), Mia Humrichouser (40th; 23:05.88) and Georgia McFarland (41st; 23:06.13) all scored for the Cougars.

Ontario was led by Baylee Black who took eighth overall with a 20:58.82 while Zoe Hampton finished 26th in 22:14.54 and Kenzie Goodlin finished in 39th with a 22:56.66. Journey Ross (46th; 23:15.81) and Eliana Fittante (59th; 23:36.48) all scored for the Warriors.

Alanah Cole led the Ashland Arrows in 19th place with a time of 21:49.09 while Ava Cline took 20th with a 21:50.49. Ava Bracken (49th; 23:19.13), Alex Huckleberry (54th; 23:32.06) and Madison Reynolds (60th; 23:45.24) all scored for the Arrows.

Madison McKenna led the Clear Fork Colts in 30th with a time of 22:27.17 while Aly Brokaw took 81st with a 25:26.15.

New London's Reese Landis was the race's individual winner taking first overall with a blazing time of 18:07.70, more than two minutes ahead of second place.

In the boys race, Shelby earned first place with 80 team points while Ashland took second with 126, Ontario finished eighth with 204, Crestview finished 16th with 400 and Lucas rounded things out in 17th with 428.

Marshall Moore was the top finisher for the Whippets taking seventh overall with a time of 17:01.50 while Sean Finnegan took 14th with a 17:24.59. Indy Mayer (17th; 17:34.09), Luke Lesseuer (20th; 17:38.36) and Carson Perkins (22nd; 27:56.58) were the scoring runners for Shelby.

Ashland was led by K'Tyo Hedershot who took second overall with a 16:33.97 while Brody Blough finished in 21st with a 17:51.10. Owen Lemon (28th; 18:06.14), Cameron Arbaugh (36th; 18:22.68) and Chaden Sampson (39th; 18:23.64) all scored for the Arrows.

Dean Morrison led Ontario with a ninth-place finish and a time of 17:07.99 while Xavier Trent took 18th with a 17:34.21. Rylan Baker (50th; 18:40.99), Ashton Drozda (62nd; 18:55.36) and Demetri Parsons (66th; 19:02.96) scored for the Warriors.

Crestview's Cooper Brockway led the Cougars with a fifth-place finish in 16:58.53 while Lucas's Gavin Bichsel took 32nd with an 18:18.75 to lead the Cubs.

Northmor's Ryan Lehman was the race winner taking first with a 16:31.65.
