Shams: Boston signs former Wiz guard Garrison Matthews to camp deal

The Boston Celtics have offered a camp deal to former Washington Wizards shooting guard Garrison Matthews, who will accept it to become the final player on the Celtics’ 20-man training camp roster, per The Athletic’s Shams Charania.

Matthews played the last two seasons with the Wizards in a two way player role after being signed by them as an undrafted free agent who played collegiately for the Lipscomb Bisons. A 6-foot-5 wing who is a strong shooter with career averages of 38.9% from beyond the arc and 41.3% overall, Matthews has a season of two way eligibility left, and will be one of the leading candidates to fill Boston’s open two way roster slot with these bona fides.

The Franklin, Tennessee native will have a very competitive bunch in camp fighting for that two way slot, with the Celtics having signed a number of fairly solid candidates to their camp already.
