See the top 20 Iowa high school basketball recruits in the 2024 boys state tournament

The Iowa high school boys basketball state tournament is just days away.

Starting on Monday, 32 teams from across the state will converge on Des Moines with hopes of taking home a championship trophy. Some of the rosters for those squads boast players who are on the radar of college coaches.

From West Des Moines Valley to Cedar Falls, here are the top basketball recruits competing at the Iowa state boys basketball tournament.

One note: We know there are tons of talented athletes who are getting recruited for other sports playing at Wells Fargo Arena This list only features those players being recruited for basketball.

Names are listed in alphabetical order by last name.

Cade Courbat, Sr., Cedar Falls

The Cedar Falls senior helped the Tigers to the state tournament after a disappointing exit in the substate final last season. Courbat has averaged 11.1 points, 5.8 rebounds, 2.2 assists, 1.5 blocks and 1.4 steals for Cedar Falls.

William Gerdes, So., Cedar Falls

This 2026 class is definitely on to watch. Gerdes leads the Tigers with 12.2 points per game, shooting an incredible 71.8% from the field. He has added 4.4 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.3 steals per game.

Carson Johnson, Sr., Ankeny

Johnson was almost an unstoppable force this season. The Minnesota State-Moorhead commit shot 51.6% from the field and 48.1% from deep, and he averaged 23.7 points, 3.6 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 1.2 steals per game.

Trevan Krumrei, Sr., Cedar Rapids Kennedy

The Truman State commit is a large part of Kennedy’s undefeated run to the state tournament. He has averaged 10.2 points – while shooting 51.5% from the field and 45.2% from 3-point range – and 3.2 rebounds per game.

Micah Schlaak, Sr., Cedar Rapids Kennedy

Schlaak shot 61.2% from the field and 41% from beyond the arc. He has averaged 10.7 points, 4.2 rebounds, 1.9 steals, 1.7 assists and 1.1 blocks per game. He is headed to Southwest Minnesota State after graduation.

Tevin Schultz, So., Dubuque Senior

Another sophomore on the rise, Schultz helped the Rams to the state tournament with 14.6 points, 4.5 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game. He shot 58.7% from the field and 34.7% from 3-point range leading up to the tournament.

Navon Shabazz, So., Assumption

The Knights’ roster is loaded, and Shabazz stands out on a junior- and senior-heavy squad. He has averaged 14.8 points, 4.6 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 1.3 steals per game in Assumption’s run to the state tournament.

Curtis Stinson Jr., Jr., Valley

Stinson holds an offer from Iowa State – his father’s alma mater – in addition to Missouri and Nebraska. Despite missing part of the season with an injury, Stinson has averaged 19.7 points, 6.9 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game.

Mason Watkins, Jr., West Burlington

Watkins led the Falcons with 21.9 points, 3.8 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 2.3 steals per game. He has shot 51.6% from the field and 41.8% from 3-point range, and his success in past seasons has earned him at least one Division I offer, from Western Illinois.

Caden Wilkins, Sr., Bettendorf

Wilkins went head-to-head with one of the best players in the state in the substate final, Iowa City West's Jack McCaffery, and helped his team earn a spot at Wells Fargo Arena. He has averaged 18.6 points, 6.4 rebounds, three assists and 1.2 blocks per game.
