Sectional roundup: Lawrence North rallies late for win; WeBo advances to final

The first two nights of IHSAA Sectional baseball tournament play is in the books.

Here's a roundup of Wednesday's and Thursday's action.

Class 4A

Lawrence North 8, Ben Davis 4

Lawrence North scored four runs in the seventh to defeat Ben Davis.

Brock Taulman's RBI triple broke a 4-4 tie in the top of the seventh. Hayden Herendeen drew a walk, and Anthony Ludington's three-run homer provided the insurance runs. Logan Crock, Taulman and Ludington had two hits each.

Wyatt Bastin pitched three scoreless innings to get the win.

Lawrence North advances to face Pike Monday at noon.

Pike 12, Crispus Attucks 0

Pike used nine hits to score 12 runs in five-inning win over Crispus Attucks.

Rory Weaver led the Red Devils with three RBI and one run scored. Trey Woods added two hits and two RBI. LJ Young, James Allison and Griffen Geer combined for 11 strikeouts.

Pike advances to face Lawrence North, Monday at noon.

Class 3A

Western Boone 5, Danville 3

Western Boone scored five runs in the fifth inning to defeat Danville.

Luke Jackson led the Stars with two RBI. Jackson Grimes and Carter Marcum had two hits each.

Western Boone will face Crawfordsville in the sectional championship game Monday at 11 a.m.

Northview 7, Indian Creek 1

Class 4A

New Palestine cruises past Muncie Central

New Pal scored 10 runs in the first, setting the tone for a 22-0 win over Muncie Central.

Jacob Morris led the offense going 3-for-3 with a double, four RBI and one run scored. Jackson Kamp added three RBI. Nic Deering, Trase Quillen, Liam Atkinson, Wyatt Matheis and Gavin Neal had two RBI each.

New Pal (22-5) will face Richmond (13-8) Saturday at 11 a.m.

Lawrence Central 3, North Central 2

Nick Johnson led Lawrence Central (10-13) over North Central (14-9). Johnson earned the win allowing one run over 3⅔ innings while adding an RBI double and a run scored at the plate. Bryson Luter added one hit and an RBI.

Jackson Dinnsen had two hits and one RBI for North Central. Alva Eskine added two hits. Joel Berkholz added an RBI.

Roncalli 2, Perry Meridian 1

Maddox Haworth hit a walk-off single in extra-inning, leading Roncalli over Perry Meridian.

Dylan Henry led off the eight with a single. Sam Roeder followed with a bunt single. The runners moved a base on a sacrifice bunt, before Falcons starter Austin McNabb issued an intentional walk to load the bases. McNabb struck out the next batter, but Haworth followed with a single, plating the winning run.

J.J. Prendergast struck out 13 and allowed just three hits over 6⅔ innings for Roncalli (16-9). Daylan Powers earned the win in relief, pitching 1⅓ scoreless innings with three strikeouts.

McNabb took the loss for the Falcons (19-7). The Dayton commit struck out eight and allowed one earned run over 7⅔ innings.

Franklin Central 15, Warren Central 1

Franklin Central used an eight-run fourth inning to defeat Warren Central.

Franklin Central advances to face Roncalli in the Sectional semifinal.

Ty Horvath, Nate Schwark, Dylan Richards and Braden Mahoney had two RBI each for the Flashes (10-16). Ben Uhlmansiek earned the win, striking out seven and allowing four hits over five innings.

Hobbs Lucas had two hits for the Warriors (5-18).

Decatur Central 9, Brownsburg 8

Decatur Central scored four runs in the fifth inning for a comeback victory over Brownsburg.

The Hawks plated one run on a throwing error. Bo Polston put the Hawks up for good with a three-run triple. Polston finished with two hits and five RBI. Jake Hoover and Colin McNeer led Brownsburg (8-17) with three RBI each.

DC advances to face Terre Haute North Vigo. Monday at 10 a.m.

Mooresville 2, Greenwood 0

Brendin Oliver's dominant pitching performance led Mooresville over Greenwood.

Oliver threw a one-hit shutout against the Woodmen (12-14), striking out seven and walking two. Levi Dorn and Selby Barton each had RBI for the Pioneers (26-3). Mooresville advances to face Bloomington North Monday at 10 a.m.

Franklin 5, Columbus North 3

Franklin used a five-run fifth inning to defeat Columbus North (17-8).

Braeden Burton started the rally with a solo home run. Jesse Kaster scored on an error. Landen Bassey's RBI double put the Grizzly Cubs ahead 3-2. Blake Smythe's RBI single provided an insurance run, and Owen Bullington scored on an error to complete the comeback.

Burton earned the win. He went the distance, striking out four and allowing two earned runs.

Franklin (15-10) advances to face East Central (19-8), Friday at 6 p.m.

Class 3A

Danville 17, Monrovia 5

The Danville offense explodes for 13 runs in the third inning, earning in a commanding win over Monrovia.

The Warriors used four hits to score the 13 runs. Errors plagued Monrovia throughout the big inning.

Kole Miller led Danville (15-11) with three RBI. Ethan Wooten, Ryan Wetzel, Owen Benson and Cole Stafford had two RBI each.

Danville advances to face Western Boone, Thursday at 5:30 p.m.

Western Boone 15, Lebanon 5

Western Boone used 11 hits to generate 15 runs for a big win over Lebanon.

The Stars did most of their damage in two innings, scoring six runs in the fourth and five runs in the seventh.

Gavin Hawkins led WeBo with three hits and four runs scored. Luke Jackson hit a grand slam and scored two runs.

Wesley Byrd and Corbin Wells led Lebanon, driving in three and two runs, respectively.

WeBo (17-10) will face Danville (15-11), Thursday at 5:30 p.m.

Indian Creek 17, Owen Valley 3

Indian Creek pounds out 19 hits in win over Owen Valley.

Colt DeHart led the Braves with three hits including a home, three runs scored and four RBI. Carter Modlin added two hits and three RBI. Bryce Harmon added two hits and two RBI.

The Braves (16-4) advance to face Northview (15-8), Thursday at 5:30 p.m.

Purdue Poly 10, Herron 0

The Techies (11-8) used a strong all-around performance to defeat Herron.

Diego Vega earned the win on the mound. The freshman allowed just one hit over five innings, striking out seven.

DeWayne Sawyers led the offense with two hits and three RBI. Derrick Johnson added two hits and two RBI.

Purdue Poly advances to face Beech Grove Saturday at 4 p.m.

Class 2A

Park Tudor 7, Scecina 1

The Panthers (18-4) controlled all three phases of the game for a commanding win over Scecina.

MJ Gaines and Brady Redman had two RBI each. Desmond Francis added two hits and one run scored.

Carter Hall earned the win over the mound throwing five scoreless innings, striking over eight and allowing just two hits.

Park Tudor will face Heritage Christian Saturday at 5:30 p.m.

University 12, Sheridan 1

Strong pitching and hitting led University to a win over Sheridan.

Beckett Suh allowed one hit and struck out eight over four innings. Cooper Cammack and Jimmy Caldwell each went 3-for-3. Caldwell and Mark Hamby hit home runs. Jasper Owens and Charlie Rangel had two hits each.

University (14-11-1) advances to face Cascade Monday at 10 a.m.

Cascade 4, Cardinal Ritter 1

Garrett Bassett solid pitching performance led Cascade over Cardinal Ritter.

Bassett went 6⅔ innings, striking out six and allowing one earned run. Braxton Lewis and J.T. Roshong had two hits each.

Cascade (20-5) will face University, Monday at 10 a.m.

Class 1A

Lapel 19, Muncie Burris 1

Lutheran 20, Morristown 1
