Will second-round county tournament games upset the Morris/Sussex girls soccer rankings?

It's time for Hunterdon/Warren/Sussex and Morris County Tournament second-round matches.

The HWS first round was dominated by the favorites, with three shutouts in four matches. There was only one upset in MCT openers, as No. 19 Morris Tech outlasted No. 14 Kinnelon in a shootout.

On Wednesday, HWS matches will be played at the better seed. All the MCT quarterfinals, both girls and boys, are set for Saturday at Mendham.

10. Morristown (8-3-2)

Last week: Unranked

Junior Marin Fisher leads the Colonials with eight goals and three assists. Morristown has shutouts in three of the last four matches, including 3-0 against Butler in the MCT opener. The ninth-seeded Colonials visit No. 8 Pequannock on Wednesday.

9. Hanover Park (9-2)

Last week: No. 10

Hornets seniors Arianna Allonardo (8g), Sienna Petro (5g, 5a) and Courtney Irwin (5g, 4a) are lighting up the offense. Hanover Park is on an eight-match winning streak, including 8-0 in its MCT opener against Boonton. The seventh-seeded Hornets host No. 10 Mount Olive on Wednesday night.

8. Vernon (11-1-1)

Last week: No. 7

Sparta ended the Vikings' unbeaten season, 6-0, on Oct. 9, delaying sophomore Monica Curry's pursuit of the school scoring record. It was the first time Curry, who has 35 goals this fall, was kept off the scoreboard. Fifth-seeded Vernon hosts No. 12 Warren Hills to open the HWS.

7. Madison (10-1)

Last week: No. 6

The Dodgers head into the MCT on a four-match winning streak, including a 2-1 victory against tournament opponent Mountain Lakes on Sept. 28. Madison has already defeated its NJAC-Liberty foe twice, outscoring them 9-3.

6. Morris Knolls (10-3)

Last week: No. 8

Morris Knolls has had an up-and-down October, starting with a 1-0 NJAC-American loss to West Morris before rebounding with non-conference victories against Blair and at Montclair. The fourth-seeded Golden Eagles host No. 13 Parsippany in their MCT opener.

Up next: Wednesday MCT vs. Parsippany, Thursday at Chatham, Monday at Sparta

5. Roxbury (7-1-1)

Last week: No. 4

Senior goalkeepers Aislyn Rivera and Clara Donnelly have shared six straight shutouts. Third seed Roxbury hosts upset-minded Morris Tech on Wednesday night.

4. Pequannock (12-0)

Last week: No. 5

The only unbeaten NJAC team remaining, Pequannock received the eighth seed in the MCT and opened with a 7-0 victory against No. 25 Dover. Junior Zoe Wizner has four straight shutouts for the Golden Panthers, who host No. 9 Morristown on Wednesday.

3. Sparta (8-2)

Last week: No. 3

Senior Juliana Dolinski leads Sparta with 13 goals and six assists. The Spartans' two losses came in back-to-back matches against Chatham on Sept. 28 and Oct. 2. The HWS top seed, Sparta will begin play in a quarterfinal.

2. Chatham (7-1)

Last week: No. 2

Junior Abby Droner has five goals and two assists and sophomore Amanda Thornton adds four goals and three assists for the Cougars, who remain undefeated atop the challenging NJAC-American. The second seed in the MCT, Chatham opens play hosting No. 15 Jefferson.

1. Randolph (10-1-2)

Randolph picked up its first loss, 2-1 at Hunterdon Central on Oct. 9. Juniors Jojo Denegri (15g, 4a) and Rylie Van Wingerden (13g) are the scoring leaders for top seed Randolph, which begins play hosting Mendham on Wednesday night.
